: injectors
Weston 08-24-2007, 04:37 PM I just bought my truck about 2 months ago and after reading on this website for a while, I am quite positive my injectors are bad. Not sure if they have ever been replaced or not, but my biggest problem is the truck has 201K miles. Am I screwed? If so what are my best options? Shell out big $ at local dealer? Thanks for the advise..
shafermike 08-24-2007, 04:47 PM Trade it in on a non LB7 engined truck. Injectors (all 8) will nail you for $ 4,500 and at 201K miles, that's like putting $ 100 dollar hubcapss on a $ 10 car.
You can run a VIN check here to see if and when they were changed by GM in the trucks history.
Good luck.
chipper 08-24-2007, 05:18 PM What have you seen or heard that makes you think your injectors are bad?
What year is your truck?
Weston 08-24-2007, 05:32 PM well I changed the oil right after I got it and there was 7 Gallons of oil (what I thought at the time was oil) I figured somone had changed the iol and refilled it twice on accident. So I was reading online last night about everyone elses problems and the topic came up about the fuel in crankcase thing. Today I changed the oil again and there was diffenitly more than what I put in. And it had a diesel smell to it. Not to mention the white smoke at idle, and the low oil pressure. Does that soud normal for this problem?
Paul Clancy 08-24-2007, 07:17 PM If it was mine I'd source reman injectors on the web and get them changed at a private shop. Or better yet if you can wait untill the new billets tip injectors are available in late fall/early spring. Being tested now.
Nathan Muthler 08-24-2007, 07:55 PM Ive had mine replaced by a local shop since the warranty went out. They did a very good job all three times. Cost me 3200 the last time I had them replaced. I think there may be some other vendors on here to get the injectors from. If you email Tolliwacker on here he told me of a discount GM site, but I cant recall it off the top of my head. I got my last set at about 300 bucks a piece. They also have a core on the old ones. Dont be afraid of the miles Ive got 345000 on mine and it still works great.
WanaDmxsub 08-25-2007, 12:14 AM Load a sig so we know what truck and mods you have.
Do a VIN check.
Take it back to the seller and tell them they screwed you.
Try a couple of your local dealers and see what they say, maybe one will help you out.
Check Here Vendors (http://dieselplace.com/forum/showvendors.php?) for someone close to you that could also do the work if you have to pay out-of-pocket.
:welcome2:
Tolliwacker 08-25-2007, 12:50 PM zThere is a guy on Sleezebay that has remans for $149.00 apiece.
I cannot put the web address because a Mod will delete it, but they are on Ebay, under LB7 Remanufactured Injectors, and that is what the dealer will be putting in, so don't fret the reman part....
silveradoj442 08-25-2007, 02:21 PM It cant hurt to take it by the dealer and see if they will work with you. I mean you are just barley over the 200k. If you find the right dealer, you never know. It can't hurt to ask. Bummer man
Weston 08-25-2007, 07:01 PM Yea ill try that. i appreciate all of yoru advise. I hope i can get time off to go to the dealer before I get any more miles on it. I bought the truck in Georgia about 3 hrs away, so I guess i'll take it somewhere a little closer. No mods to the truck yet sorry to say. I am glad to hear that these trucks are good for some miles that makes me feel better I will wirte back upon results.
coolstero 08-27-2007, 07:14 PM If your looking for injectors I got four injectors that only had 4000 miles on them that I well sell for 400 dollars. My e-mail account is john188@cox.net.
1LTREATR 08-27-2007, 07:53 PM is this billet tip injector story true? If so......does anyone know of prices, and cost of instalation? should be free in my opinion.

where at in GA? My dealer sales them for 250 a piece, so does a supporting vendor, Kennedy Diesel. It takes 8 hours labor, get a nicktane on it and she will last a long time
tbrowne 08-27-2007, 08:51 PM I think it's been established that secondary filtration does not eliminate injector failure. The injectors are defective from the factory and the replacement injectors are identical to the factory originals.

A member here is testing these in his truck as a part of a larger test for gm. They are not for sale currently. A search will find his posts but they are holding up well in his truck and he's been through several sets of the current style injectors prior to testing these. He thought they would be available possibly fall or spring.
stevehwkns 08-28-2007, 09:06 AM I just finished getting rid of that problem myself. I had so much fuel in my oil the whole under carriage and tail gate were coated with oil/fuel by the time I returned home from a trip I took. My oil pressure tanked and the crank breather was pouring out the oil/fuel mix. I took my truck in to GM and they screwed me for 1500 dollars and told me it was fixed but would not be covered under warranty because it was a loose banjo bolt conecting the return line to the head. I took the truck back in 3 times complaining it still had fuel in the oil. They drove it and put dye in the fuel and tested the oil for dye and couln't find anything so they said. They would not believe me!!!! I drained the oil and took a sample and then pulled the valve covers off and found one of the injectors pissing fuel out between the return line and injector body. It turned out the injector was bad. Of course they had no problem fixing that under warranty. I had to tow the truck in and show the tech and service manager where the fuel was coming from. I also showed them the oil sample and they told me that yes there was dye in the oil. Imagine that!!! The dealer received payment from GM for the whole job, of which I did a third of the work for them and never received any break from my bogus repair bill. I am a mechanic by trade and never would have taken it in if wasn't going to be under warranty. Good luck working with GM. On a side note I was told to bring the truck in with the pile of parts and they would put it back together for me. I asked are you sure he will know where they all go? They assured me and when I picked up the truck sure enough the parts were all gone from the pan I took them in. The only problem was some of the brackets and retainers never made it from the pan to the truck. Nice repair guys. I hope there is a GM employee that will be reading this in the future and realize why mechanics in general get a bad rap!!!! You guys are supposed to be the experts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A JOKE
Weston 08-28-2007, 06:08 PM I bought the truck at Frank Andrews Chevrolet in Dubin G.A. It had 198,990 miles on it. I havent even made the first payment on it yet. By the time I realized there was a problem, and heard other people talking about it on here, I was at 201k. I havent had a chance to go to any local dealers but I am planning on it this weekend. I guess I will see what they have to say. Thanks for all the advise so far.
Tolliwacker 08-28-2007, 06:27 PM And I thought my 03 had the miles on it...........178K and counting.
Log onto Chevy's website, they have a 200,000 mile club thig going, at least you get a free sticker! (sarcasim) I know it does not make you feel any better, but I bet you got a deal on the truck, and it will help ease the pain, at least you did not throw money out the window on depreciation! The money I saved buying used will buy me 5 sets of injectors.
And mine will probably crap out a 201K as well, this set has been in the truck for 146,000 miles already.
Weston 08-29-2007, 05:08 PM Well I talked to a couple of dealerships today, and finaly GM for like an hour. After all of that they told me there hands were tied becouse I bought the truck as is. Well does anyone know of a good post about injector installs? I will probobly be doing the work myself due to a lack of money. I changed the injectors in my car a while back, it wasnt to bad. Where should I buy from, Ebay?
ordinarykid 08-29-2007, 06:17 PM After all of that they told me there hands were tied becouse I bought the truck as is.
For that reason??? Does it have a salvage title?
Weston 08-29-2007, 10:26 PM No just becouse of the milage they said

First, I would like to point out that this is a Dealer issue and specific to the Dealer you dealt with.
Secondly, why bother with the hassle of all the trips back in. If they knew what was going on and they had a properly trained and skilled tech for your truck, one return trip max should have taken care of it. There are other dealers out there.
