Just a little info for anyone needing a good service department...
For all you in my neck of the woods - I found A good South East Michigan diesel mechanic at Rinke Pontiac GMC in Warren.
The dealer who I bought my '05 from didn't know anything about the
reflash (and wouldn't check) and didn't catch that my truck was low on
P/S fluid & 1.5 qt's low on transmission fluid. I
called Rinke GMC and the Service Manager went out of his way to check
on the re-flash and called me back. They got me right in,
confirmed that my '05 already had the update and even ran my balance
rates for good measure. He even went for a road test with me to
check if a strange noise I had been complaining of was normal.
The Diesel Technician was very knowledgable. He and the Service
Manager spent about 20 minutes talking trucks with me and advised that
they had no issues doing warranty work on trucks that have tuners ,
larger tires or secondary fuel filters installed. The
dealer I purchased from said they wouldn't work on anything with
after OEM modifications.
BTW....I have no ties to this dealer - I just believe in commending
someone who does good work and I know how frustrating it is to be
working with a dealer not in the know!

Next time your at Rinke, ask them about the guy from Todd Wenzel that took his 1500 ex cab into them for an emergency repair of no power steering. I had a 02 4x4 I took to school on in Warren at the tech center. School was same time as Woodward cruise. We were cruising Woodward and made a turn and snapped the p/s pump shaft. I took the truck to Rinke Pont GMC the next morning to have them fix it so I could drive back home that night. Pulled it in and had it wrote up, SA said it looks like it broke a pump shaft. I knew that was it and I told him good, you just saved me the diag charge ( dealer was paying the bill anyways.) I told them I needed it by 5.00 so I could leave. He told me it would be 700 bucks to put a pump on it. I thought that was high, but it wasnt my money ( he didnt know that) So I call my dealer up and get a cp quote to put a p/s pump on that truck, it was 400 and change. Thats quite a difference in dollars. When got the truck back, looked at the invoice and they charged 4.5 hours to replace the pump that book time says is 1.8 hours..
Not a good dealer in my book, yes, I may have had a bad experience.. But...I would bewarehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif

Interesting! GMC dealer D-max mechanics seem to be few and far
between in my area (Richmond). Maybe you did have a bad
experience - maybe I had a good one. They took petty good care of
me on my visit. Can't afford to travel 3 hours to see your
service dept. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif
Do you have any recommendations (you can PM if you want)??

I've had good luck at PAt Moran in Rochester, MI. They just updated the program and removed the codes(PO401, PO405, P1401 and PO404) from when I unhooked the EGR. They also checked fuel system pressures. I took the Cat off the first week I owned it and the dealer has said nothing about it so far.
I've used them for years and have always had great luck
