I have a 2002 2500HD Chevy with Duramax. I've used Amsoil and Amsoil filters, SDF 52, since the truck was new. Infrequently, on starting after the truck sat for a couple of days, I'd get a re-prime of the oil filter, with the oil warning light coming on for several seconds. Following the last oil change, about 2000 miles ago, and traveling to Denver and the mountains around Denver, the re-prime occurs whenever the truck is not driven for a couple of days. Amsoil claims they use a perfectly good anti-drain valve in their filter. Of course GM says I should be using their Delco filter. Has anyone had a similar experience with their Duramax? I know the Duramax is more prevelant to drain-back as the filter is mounted horizontal. I've even parked the truck on an incline hoping this might stem the problem. It may be just a bad filter from Amsoil, but considering the prior infrequent drain-backs, I'm wondering if the Duramax has a check valve that may be stuck open?
Comments from anyone having a similar experience or suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks

First I would try spinning on a new filter. It's possible the anti drainback valve is defective. This would be the cheapest first step and only the oil in the filter will be lost. I'm not sure if the engine has a check in the oiling system or not. Maybe someone with a Helm's manual will chime in.

I second "A bears advice.
I've left my truck unstarted for a week and not had the problem you describe.

I put a Mobile 1 filter on my truck about 2000 miles ago and though the low oil light didn`t come on , it did take longer for the pressure needle to come up. I changed back to a Delco today and will see what happens in the morning.

My truck sat for eleven days, one time. Had no problem. At
the time may have had a Fram filter on. Use Baldwins, now.

I haven't had any problems with my Amsoil fitlers but they both sit straight up and down.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

I've got a Mobil 1 filter. I just went out and cranked mne up and the oil pressure was better than half way up in 2 seconds and about 70# at 3 seconds. Its 59 degrees her and the pressure will drop to 60# when the oil gets hot. Works the same way with OEM and Baldwin filters.

Running an Amsoil Spin on and the truck has sat two weeks or more, and no problems on start.
Will be changing over to the bypass system next change.

After taking the Mobil 1 off and installing the AC, the pressure needle jumped up almost immediately and has been doing it every time since even in the cool ( high 40s ) mornings.

JomarCould it be that the Mobil 1 filter is doing a better job of filtering?

 Anyone else notice this? I'm nervous as I bought a couple of these filters to try with the Mobil Delvac 1.

I haven't noticed any significant difference in the time it takes for the gauge to show a reading, or any change in oil pressure. I'm just hoping that this filter will be better, although there is probably no way to really tell without doing a comparative oil analysis using each filter?
