Im installing a headlight brightening kit into my 95, and i have to do some mods to make the DRL work according to the instructions.
In the instructions they refer to the DRL module which is supposed to be behind the IP to the left of the steering wheel..
well i have had my head crammed into every available inch of that IP and i cant find the sucking thing. Can anyone lend a hand? Picture? diagram?
thanks

Ugh...I just did one on my Dad's 97 a few weeks ago.
To make it 'easy' take off the big piece of panel underneath the steering column. If you then lay down on the driver's side floor pan and look straight up the DRL module is bolted onto the round bar that runs across the cab of the truck.
You need to be a contortionist to undo the old one. I just ziptied the new one in place - waaaay easier!

DRL module in my '95 is in a black box along the headlamp switch harness. I found it to be accessible through the hole in the dash panel the headlamp switch harness comes through. Remove the trim panel, disconnect headlamp switch, cargo lamp switch, etc. Pull headlamp harness out as much as possible. There should be a black box wrapped in foam. The cover on that box flips up and the module (circuit board) slides (yanks with lots of pressure) out.
If you only need to get to the wires going into the module from the bottom removing the headlamp switch will at least get you some more light.:)

well Thanks guys.. i did find the DRL module with you guidance. man was it tucked way back there.
i spent 3 hours doing the mod that DSG gave me to mod the 95 drl to work with the headlight brightening kit. but it no workey!
yep i checked 4 times to make sure i didnt screw up or miss any steps.. but all it does is when i turn the lights from on (mains) to off (drl) i get a 1/2 sec flash on the drl's and thats all folks.. no drl :banghead:
hopefully someone else has done this mod to a 95, and can help me out here, otherwise.. i guess i have to call them (dsg) in the morning..

Sorry BC - I was thinking of the DRL diode. bgittens' directions were the ones you probably needed.

its all good.. :D i figured it out... well except the geting it to work.

Sorry BC, don't mean to hijack but chris, what was the reason you needed to get at the diode? Did it fail? If so, what were the symptoms? I have been having headlight trouble (intermittent) and have suspected a diode from day 1 but had no idea there was a separate DRL diode. I thought they were all part of the module.

intermittent DRLs....changed the diode and fixed the problem...

Please excuse my ignorance, but, what hell is a headlight "brightening" kit and what is DRL module for?

Thanks chris. I think I'll pull the diode and try to make it fail on the bench. I am intermittently having the DRL flicker with the headlights on but sometimes the dashlight will start to come on very dim and gradually start brightening up. I suspect some leaking voltage through diode until it starts flickering.
Matuva, from what I understand the headlight brightening kit increases the current going to the headlights by changing wire size & taking the load away from the switch thereby decreasing resistance.
DRL module controls the daytime running lights tieing the circuit in with various others and creating an electrical mess.

thanks for the info. Lights are a common problem on our babes. I found the solution by going HID kits.
Awesome!!! :D :D
