: Duramax LMM
activeoregon 08-23-2007, 12:37 PM I hate to burst everybodys bubble about how great the new LMM is. I purchased my 3500 three weeks ago, put on 1300 miles and it broke down. I had it towed to nearest Chevy dealer and it has been in the shop for a week with no repair yet. Truck lost power, started bellowing white smoke and making excessive knocking noise. Factory claims they have never had this problem. They think the problem is the #8 injector which appears to be stuck wide open but they're not completely sure. They won't know until they replace the injector which they haven't been able to get yet, because they claim it is too new and no one has one. They say part has to come from the engine assembly facility. I called Chevrolet customer noservice and they couldn't tell me a thing except that parts take seven to ten work days to arrive. Will keep everyone posted as soon as I know something.
Infomaniac 08-23-2007, 12:59 PM CRAP !!!
That sucks man. I've had mine 1 week tomorrow.
I don't think anyone's bubble has been burst. So far, it's just you, that I can see. I'm sure they'll get it fixed, but it sux having to wait.
robertleeii 08-23-2007, 01:47 PM all truck models have some that break down. nothing is ever perfect!!
Dmaxpower2 08-23-2007, 01:50 PM Don't feel bad, or have your bubble bursted, my caddy lived at the dealer for the first few months I owned it. Now it's fixed, I haven't had any problems for a long time. Cars,Trucks can be a P.I.T.A sometimes, none are perfect.:D
salmandmx 08-23-2007, 01:50 PM 5k miles here and no problems, running PPE in level 2. Somewhere in another post there was a person having the same issue. Come to find out he or she was running LSD (500ppm sulfur diesel) which the injectors on the LMM ARE NOT designed for however the dealership still fixed the issue even though I am sure they weren't required to seeing how the consumer used a non-recommended fuel.

I thought if I needed a loaner vehicle they would give me one. My mistake. They just blew me off and didn't return my call.
Odd problem thats for sure, have yet to have one return to the dealer for a injector issue...

One of my LLY vans broke down with a bad turbo with 10 miles on it.
Never made it home from the dealer.
After a month to fix it, its gone 30k with no problems.
Lets hope yours is just a fluke.

I was told today that you only get a loaner/rental if there is a complete breakdown, (not driveable), this is GM, not the dealership.
hemisareslow 08-24-2007, 02:58 AM Didn't break my bubble.....9k miles on mine and not one problem....like someone else said...there are bound to be a few bad apples...but to date i cannot think of any other issues with the lmm...aside from a few trolls posting ofcourse

who is this directed to?

i went in with the coolent level low message and they said if i wanted to leave it they would give me a rental car for as long as it took to figure out what wasup!
Coolbreeze 08-24-2007, 11:36 AM Truck has 20K parts in it and it only takes one bad one to ruin your day. In the company I work we regularly find bad components even 2 or 3 years after we bring out the product. Don't despair Auto industry all in all actually has their poop together vs. electronic industry. Wish you well and that it was only one bad part and not more then that.
dahnoo 08-24-2007, 06:19 PM I am sorry that you have had such a bad time with your new truck. I gotta say - I bought mine new and have put 1500 miles on it over the summer. I go back to work on Monday (11 weeks off) and I am a bit nervous about the 86 miles a day I will be doing for the next 38 weeks.
I would not allow them to not give me a loaner car. You'd be hearing me down to the next town. Actually, I don't think my dealer would do that to me. They send me to Enterprise down the road (actually, I get driven there) and am back on the road within the hour. That's been my experience. But, if need be, I'm used to yelling (well, actually shouting commands) at children...schoolteacher and all that.
Really, I hope that you demand the care that you deserve. If not, the AG will be ready to help you. Be well.
rocket281 08-24-2007, 08:53 PM It's really sad that you can no longer trust the financial burden of a diesel today once the warranty has expired. Remember the day when the diesel was the eternal motor?
The Cummins is the last of the Mohicans.

it's rarely ever an engine problem, so much as a component problem. and they share some of the same issues. . . ie a lift pump; it could go out on either engine (cummins or duramax or powerjoke) rendering them all to a tow.
Orangefuzzy 08-28-2007, 12:39 AM Hell, with that low mileage, I'd demand a new truck.
Dieselhealer 08-28-2007, 09:24 PM Odd, I called my dealer here in Dallas and they say they've kept parts, including injectors, for the LMM's in stock since January of this year. They also said GM can ship any parts on a one day timetable so the dealer is feeding you a line.
LMM parts arrived at dealers way ahead of the trucks themselves.
If your story is bad you should have lived the high life with me and my Power Stroke 6.0. It grazed in one Ford dealer or another for an entirety of 177 days in 06, getting 2 turbos, one radiator, one power steering pump and gearbox, 3 engines, and 2 transmissions changed. Warranty queen.
activeoregon 08-29-2007, 12:32 AM At the time I felt I was getting the run around. But the dealers, in fact, do not have all the new parts for the LMM. I got my truck back today and so far it seems to be fine. The dealer received the #8 injector last night and installed it today. The factory rep called me this afternoon to make sure the repair had been completed and that I was satisfied. I will be putting around 1200 miles on the truck this week and I will report the results. I'd like to thank all of you who offered me incouragement. I'm sure I probably over reacted.
Talisi 09-04-2007, 01:57 PM Over 7000 and only a few dash rattles!

You might want to check out the 6.7 Cummins forums out there. Cummins is by far having the most issues of the three in regards to the ultra low emission diesel platform.
The 5.9 is a different story though....it's a great engine.

As it turned out I put about 1500 miles on the truck this week and everything worked fantastic. After the 1500 miles I put on another 300 miles pulling my 39' 17000 pound toy hauler. Plenty of power and the brake controller was the best I've ever used. No fear of stopping on a 6% grade and with the six speed Allison, it's the perfect combination. My 6.0 powerstroke always felt underpowered and I always felt uneasy going down a steep grade. My truck also gets a lot of looks. Crew cab, long bed, white, black leather, all options except moon roof. 4" lift, toyo mt 35s on Ultra Goliath 18x9 black and chrome rims, black oval gm steps, black bushwacker fender flares, and black bed rail caps. To use the 35s with the 4" lift you do have to remove some metal behind the back of the inside fender shield on the front.
CHV_FRK 09-06-2007, 06:49 AM Glad to see you got things worked out. Personally I would find another dealer. I never have to ask for a rental. If you're truck is in for more than a day then you shouldn't have to ask, GM picks it up. At my local dealer I get a loaner b/c I've bought a couple cars there and maintain a decent relationship w/ one of the salesmen. Not alot of pull, but it's someone right?

i think you should recheck that they dont have to give you a loaner for 2 hours a ride maybe loaners are for disabled vehicles that have to spend the night may even be 2 nights or more. this guy should have gotten 1.
