: What is connected to the glow plug relay?

I bypassed my glow plug relay today with a ford starter relay and a pushbutton, I connected the 2 wires with heat sinks on them on one side of the relay, and the heavy battery power wire to the other side. To the switch terminal, I connected battery power off of an auxillary breaker the previous owner had on the fender.

Problem is, my guages aren't working right, the voltmeter reads nothing, and the lift pump does not seem to be running, also, the dinger bell rings when i turn on my lights, like it is not acknowleging the engine is running.

I tried running a jumper wire to the side of the GP relay where the battery wire used to be, and also on the other side, but it didn't make any difference.

I also changed the starter today, but since it's only got just the battery cable and the S terminal wire, I don't think the problem is there.

Thanks in advance for the help.

First, put things back like they were, see if that will fixit - or, measure the voltage ~or use a test lite~ on the terminal with the battery wire on it - should be always hot battery volts - if not, the fusible link is blown at the main power block - or, you misplaced or lost a ground that was attached back there with the GM gp relay - or, some of those Ford start-type solenoids require the battery be connected to a specific terminal

it just occured to me that when i was swapping the hot lead onto the ford relay, I arc'd the wire...going out to search for bad fusible link. I'll also put the wires back on the factory glow plug relay 1st to make sure it's not an issue with my wiring.

I got 'er figured out. Fusible links are fine, had a blown gauge fuse in the panel. Plugged in a new fuse, turned on switch, blew it again. Remembered that just before the starter went bad I had put new O rings in the fuel filter housing, unplugged wires to filter housing and no blown fuse. Turned out to be the water in fuel sensor wires. Evidently one of them is bare where it goes into the housing or something, so, once again, I get to remove the friggin' fuel filter housing.

I hate to say it, but I kinda miss the old square brick style filter they used on the 6.2's after tangling with this one.
