Just bought a 2004 LB7 crewcab 2500 SLT with 60k.

Was offered an extended warranty but turned it down?

What do you think? Is it worth $500.

It's just a basic powertrain warranty, engine is already covered to 100k I believe. Dealer checked service history and nothing.

It's just with all the bells and whistles I'm having second thoughts.

Powertrain warranty? The powertrain warranty is 100k, not just the engine. The extended should be everything else but the powertrain, since it is already 100k. I would get clarification from the dealer.

For 2006 and older trucks, the only thing that carries the 100,000 mile warranty is the Duramax Diesel engine (200,000 miles for LB7 injectors). The rest of the powertrain is covered by the bumper-to-bumper 36-mo/36,000-mile warranty, unless you purchased the GMPP extended warranty. Warranty is transferable to subsequent owners.

However, if the truck is a GM Certified used vehicle with less than 60,000 miles and purchased from a GM dealer, it will get a 5-yr/100,000-mile GM powertrain warranty on the complete powertrain.

ALL GM factory warranties, including the powertrain 100,000 mile warranty are transferable to subsequent owners. -- Chrysler, on the other hand, has a lifetime powertrain warranty for the ORIGINAL OWNER ONLY. Their lifetime warranty does NOT apply to vehicles with diesel engines.

Read his thread and it sounds like they are telling him just the engine is 100k, not the power train. before he buys extended warranty he needs to get it straight. There are also extended warranty companies other than the ones from the dealer so do your research and then wheel and deal with them. I got mine from the dealer when I bought my truck new and it cost me $1500., they were asking $2200 and I told em to eat Sh%! They brought it down a little bit for me so was happy. I have bought one for all of my rigs and just used one for the 1st time on the Passat Wagon. the extended on that was $1700 and the new engine with install etc(35k miles, original had 72K) was $5500 so good deal i think.

They are correct. He bought a 2004 LB7. Only the Duramax engine has a 100k warranty, unless the vehicle has LESS than 60,000 miles, plus the dealer performed the special 117-point inspection, documented fixing any problems found and the dealer also paid GM to certify the used vehicle. If the truck has 60,000 miles or more, I don't think it qualifies for the GM Certified Used Vehicle warranty, but I could be wrong.

On another note, the only extended warranty I would ever consider would be one from the vehicle manufacturer; in this case it would be the GMPP Extended Warranty. I think it would cost more than $500 if it were the genuine GM warranty.

So anyway, I didn't get the warranty because I'm not a fan of them. I was just asking are these trucks prone to any particular post warranty issues?
