Initial impression is very nice and smooth. I'm still adjusting to the different sounds and responsiveness of the LLY, so it's hard to judge timing and lag, but it scoots pretty good.

The 100HP level hazes my tires in 2nd gear for most of the gear. The Allison has a LOT of learning to do. The only reason I went out with the 100 tune was that a customer was interested in the box etc. I'm back to the 40 and taking it easy. No more 120 mph jaunts for a while, ESPECIALLY without a detector...

John how does it work on the LIE detector?

BTW how is the LLY, I assume it's on your truck.

Two questions on the new Predator:

Is the 65 rwhp tune too much for a stock transmission? I see a few guys are talking about adding the 40 rwhp tune, but I do not see as much talk about the 65 tune. Is the extra 140 ft-lbs too much?

Also, I see talk of the predator throwing off the DIC for fuel mileage. How does this happen? I can understand it with a box like the Edge or others, since it is modifying the fuel signal sent from the PCM and increasing the fuel delivery. Thus, the injection system is sending more than it thinks it is. But, with a tune like the Predator, shouldn't the PCM already know how much fuel it is sending, even if it is more than stock? The tune is alreay in the PCM, so I would have guessed that the fuel delivery values are known to the PCM. Just looking for an explanation on what I am missing here. Thanks.Edited by: Boilermaker

Boilermaker,

Good common sense will always prevail when choosing HP levels. 65 HP on a stock Allison is OK, except if you have a way heavy load or are a stop light t0 stop light grand prix racer. These are the things that we as distributor have no control over and are frankly a little bit conservative in making suggestions as to what is or isn't safe. 65 HP level driving like a regular driver isn't a problem.

The MPG deal is just that the Predator or any programmer for that matter has changed the signal that goes to the MPG computer. It is a slave to the stock PCM and doesn't know anything has changed there fore it calculates off of an incorrect set of parameters and gives a false signal. No way to fix it in the past and doubt if there will be in the future, but you never some enterprising individual might make a toy to correct it.

I've been considering strapping it down. So far I really like the truck, except for the ugly black door handles, and the stupid seat belt chime...

Installed mine last night - with a 6 speed and the 100hp tune...Going down my rural road I felt like a pro stock driver trying to shift fast enoughhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif Power is nice and smooth, then comes on at about 2200...I'll be putting a lower tune in tonight, but I had to try the biggest one first...

hey does any one notice that right before a shift the engine revs up and then goes into gear? this is on the 65 hp tune. also i was thinking of putting it on the 100 after the tranny learns the 65 only to test it out not for every day use how is that? as in safe or smothness

i encountered that today after install - its basically the defueling program that it has, which is not that great, not sure if the truck will adapt to that or not. I drove it like that for a while and said ok, lets try something so i plugged in edge attitude, set for no defuel and its all good now, i was hoping to over write that part of it and it did

Is that something that has a setting in the programmer for installing defuel or not, or just something that you have to live with?
