I am having a bit of a cold start problem. The Burb starts, but it stumbles and doesn’t fire on all the cylinders for the first few seconds, and there is a lot of white smoke. Now the reason, I am mentioning this, is because I just replaced the injectors and the glow plugs, so I would expect it to start right up, with no issues what so ever. I have also just replaced the temp sensor on the water crossover. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I am wondering if it could be a timing issue? Seems to me, that if I pull the plug off the temp senor, it starts without a problem. What tool do I need to test and set IP timing? Do I have to go to the dealer to get it done?

In order to properly set the TDC offset to -1.5 to -2.0* TDC you have to use a MT2500 and the key on key off sequence or a techII found at any stealer. Edited by: quantum mechanic

Quantum,

Do you happen to know if all generations of the venerable Snap On "brick" will set offset? I've got a cheepie AutoXray scanner that doens't have the capability.

Thanks,

Jim

TD is the guy to ask, iirc he had to buy a cartridge to update the unit.

But the snap-on still has to use the key-on/pedal key/off to learn TDC the scanner just shows where it is.Edited by: quantum mechanic

Only the Tech X is capable of commanding the PCM to relearn TDC offset, otherwise, all you need is the PCM powerdown procedure to make the computer relearn, and a scanner to monitor, so any scanner that reads TDC offset will do.
