Guys/Gals

I hate to be a pain but ever time I start talking about something that is not completed people want more information and what it will and will not do. This information ends up going to our competitors to help improve their product as well. It is our company policy not to discuss products until they are completed and released for production. I hope you understand our position. We have shown the basic unit and let a little information out about whats coming but all the features and capabilities will not be released until such time as it is released for production. We had high hope this would have been done already but we are having suppliers that are delivering parts later than expected. Parts were due here in September that are still not here!

Is the VIN locked into the ECM??? Just wondering if you had the ecm replaced already and had the program set to the vehicle VIN and then it won't work because the ECM is not the original computer.

RaceHemi
11-17-2004, 05:46 PM
With the exception of the Predator, all handheld tuners I have ever
seen are VIN locked, but only locked while the tune is loaded. Once the
stock tune is reloaded you may use your tuner to flash another vehicle.
As of late I have heard Diablo Sport will unlock their tuners for a fee
however that didn't used to be the case. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif

I will NOT buy a program that locks the VIN. Poor business practice! I would consider a program that locked the VIN only when tuned as mentioned above but will not give my money to a company that sells basically a 'one time use' programmer. I'm not looking to cheat these companies out of money but what happens when a buddy wants to test your programmer to see if he wants his own and he can't because they have locked the VIN number!? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley35.gif

This is not directed at anyone or a specfic company but since I am most interested in the TTS PL3 I hope you guys take this into consideration.

Trippin
11-18-2004, 12:57 PM
IMHO the VIN lock is used for piracy reasons.

Case in point, the TTS LLY program was ready for market long before it was released. (I drove it in Feb 04) TTS chose to let the other companies release their versions first. The results speak for themselves. Lot's of turbo bark, surging and other drivability issues with non-TTS LLY programs. TTS releases their LLY version and it's as smooth as stock.

Then magically the other companies start to solve their drivablity problems.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to be a leader. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif You provide the education/idea, your competitiors reap the financial rewards. Unfortunately the financial rewards are needed by the leading company to fund future Research and Development.

You decide who you want to support. The "innovating" companies or the "duplicating" companies.

Unfortunately most customers are price driven and this ultimately ends up supporting the "wrong" company.

Another case in point Kennedy did a tremendous job refining the Van Aken tune and pushing it to new HP levels.
Now you can buy it from DPPI for pennies. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

Trippin I agree w/ everything you said and Steve addressed that issue previously. But from a customers point of view it looks like all they care about is making more money and as you know these programmers aren't cheap.

Again this is not a reflection on Steve or TTS just my feelings on the subject of programmers in general. I look forward to hearing more details on the PL3 since I've heard nothing but good things about TTS as a company.

dmaxfan
11-18-2004, 02:37 PM
To me they can get more money with a vin lock. Take diablo for instance, you pay them $75 to unlock the VIN, and that is probably what it costs them per tuner. There is more money in it for them with a vin lock, but this is just my opinion.

Bronco
11-18-2004, 04:25 PM
Not disagreeing with one thing said so far, however Predator told me that the vin lock allows you to go to the dealer with a tune installed and get a reflash if needed and then still be able to come home and reload your tune of choice. The other tuners would be useless after a reflash is performed while a tune is installed?

Not to advocate going to the dealer ever with any tunes instaled.

tbone1227
11-18-2004, 04:31 PM
hmmm, not sure about all that as you should always remove the tune before a dealer visit, and generally if you have a reflash, you can still use the programmer just as you normally would. The vin lock on the predator for LLY is there so that it can only be run on one truck at a time but when its returned to stock you could then use it on another vehicle

The features for the PowerLoader III are not out yet so I'm sure she must have misunderstood what you were asking her for. The current product we offer for the LLY cannot be changed but what the PL III will and will not do has yet to be released to anyone outside of engineering. The delay has been caused by suppliers not by us. We were on schedule to release the product at the SEMA show this year until the supplier of the displays used in the unit screwed up. Since it's a custom built display for us it's put us behind. What I can say is they delivered preproduction units and there were problems that they are currently fixing. I am to have three more displays just before Christmas to test. If they are right we will release the production order on the displays and we can get back to finishing the unit.

Go with the Hypertech, Edge, Banks, Predator, or Van Aken. I'm sure you will be very happy with any one of them.
And you can buy any one of them right now. ;)

Then when the Power Loader 3 hits the market you can sell the above tuner for 1/2 price and buy a PL3. Or keep the above tuner and realize that you own one of the second best tuners on the market.

If the function's were on my wish list, I would ask Santa for:

1. Top speed limiter cut-off-----Removed
2. Speedo adjustment for diffrent size tires
3. Able to read and reset codes
4. Able to be loaded and or removed if any visits to dealer come up
5. Oh ya a 250 hp increase ;)

That's all that's on my wish list Santa
Or if that's not possible time wise my birthday is in February, and that would work too :)

The PL III is for both the LB7 and LLY. To tell the truth it also works on all GM engines from 1996 to 2005. It also works on the Ford engines from 1994 - 2005. So it's a fairly robust design with alot of feature the others do not have.

dwrat

If you need something right now then we cannot help you, pretty simple. Why we take so long is because we want it right the first time. We cannot afford to rush something out only to have to replace it down the road. As far as only having a 50 Hp tune for the LLY your wrong, that's all we have released so far. If I look at the reviews from our customers they are very happy with our product, many of whom ran something else and were displeased with it prior to getting our product. Maybe we can help you in the future.

Somebody help me out here, The TTS Extreme that everyone talks about and the Power Loader II, are these the same thing? At first I was under the impression the Extreme was a programmed computer or ECM, hence the need/favor for a spare ECM. Is the Power Loader not a programmer you plug to your OBD port to tune the truck?

Just a tad confused on what the TTS Extreme is and the Power Loader is. I thought they were the same. Just looks like the Power Loader is a programmer and if you were to buy one you would recieve such and not a programmed ECM.

Ok, so you're saying I can either buy the Power Loader myself and download it to the PCM or I can order an actual pre-programmed PCM and pay a core charge until I send my PCM back, (I would obviously keep my stock PCM)??
Is that correct?

Also, each truck is programmed according to it's motor and modifications, therefore you actually put in an order specifie to your truck/needs and then you wait. Right?
In anyone's experience what was the normal or common wait time. Was it weeks, months?

How long have you been waiting?Missed that post. A few weeks back I posted the question on this thread when Steve was on here about the possibility to upgrade my ordered PL2 to a PL 3 when they arrive.....never got an answer. Lady on the phone said no when I ordered, but thought Steve might know otherwise.
