I just got my power extending tow mirrors for my truck and it is a 04.5 LLY. Can anyone tell me what I need to tell the dealer to make these work, I spoke to my service writer a week ago and he said it can't be done.

Thanks

They will have to program the driver and passenger door modules. When they program each module they will see the option, on TIS 2000, for: base mirrors, power folding mirrors, or camper mirrors. They just need to select camper mirrors and it will be ok. They will also need to reprogram the BCM, and select the camper mirror option. This will remove the "curb assist mirror" function that you can see and program with your steering wheel controls. This doesn't have to be done, but that function will no longer work. If you were to install them right now, without any programming, they would work if you currently have power folding mirrors, but when you press the extend/retract button they will go full in/out and not stop anywhere in the middle. The reprogramming only makes so they can be positioned anywhere in between. Hope this helps.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described in the PI.<A name=ss1-1524128><A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1524128&amp;psdid=297&amp;evc=sm#ss1-1524128" target="_blank">

Some customers/dealers have inquired about the new power folding, electrochromic, outside rear view mirrors (RPO DL3), and if they can switch to the new power extending outside camper style mirrors (RPO DPF)? The answer is yes, however, the dealer must also reprogram both the drivers door module and the passenger door module to accommodate this change. Also, if the vehicle has redundant steering wheel controls, the DIC (Driver Information Center-Curb view assist message) must be deleted by reprogramming the truck body control module (TCBM).

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. <A name=ss2-1524128><A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1524128&amp;psdid=297&amp;evc=sm#ss2-1524128" target="_blank">

Max Payne,

You mentioned the park assist feature of the mirrors. Can I
enable this feature by programming power folding mirrors instead of
camping mirrors? I have the power extending mirrors. Is
there a way to enable to park assist feature on these. I never
leave the mirrors half-way or whatever, they are either in or out, so
that capability is useless to me. Thanks

Dennis

The power camper mirrors do not have the proper motors in the control head to be able to handle the "memory" of the curb assist. That is also why they do not reposition themselves with driver 1 or 2.

I had the folders, switched to the campers, and the stuff like that unfortunately doesn't work. I never reprogrammed because they work fine either full in or full out. I turned off the memory seat recall and the curb assist in the DIC.

Dangit, I knew you were going to say that! Oh, well. It's a
shame, that would be a cool feature to have, and I would actually use
it.

Thanks,

Dennis

Yeah, the power folders have position sensors in the motors.

YES! Bugshields and window visors both cause alot of turbulence, you don't know how many times I have had to take them off for customers for that complaint. Take them off!

My power extending mirrors shake with the wind also, I have found slight repositioning sometimes helps. I have a smaller stick on mirror that doesn't seem to be affected by the shaking that I use. I guess there is probably nothing anyone could do about it. I will just wait until the glass falls out...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif

Risking sounding VERY ignorant here.....so please be easy..hah!!

I have had my 2500HD for about 4 months (love it btw). It is a 04.5. I have the power extend mirrors. I have to fold them up to get in the garage.

Would the power fold (that extend) help me out? I must have looked over these when I ordered my truck. I pull a 5er on occasion and need the extension....but I would love the fold feature if it is truly power fold....that way I dont have to get out to fold the passenger side before pulling in the garage http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif.

Also, does anyone haev a link to a pic of the mirrors?

Love the site.....been a big help....THANKS!

You could probably even convince someone on here to sell you their old
ones fairly cheap. . . like dwrat or Max Payne. . . if not, then shoot
dmaxallitech a PM, he can probably get them for you.

Just my driver's side mirror shakes. I try changing the angle and try extending them into different positions but no help.

Max Payne

To my knowledge you can only get power folding OR power extending. Not both. It sounds like you want both. If you only use the extending feature rarely, you should run the power folding mirrors for everyday use and just use a cheap set of mirror extenders for your 5er.

Camper Mirror Vibration:

The driver side mirror on my truck does vibrate enough to make it difficult to see the detail of vehicles behind me. This makes it difficult when trying to spot those red light bars on cars driven by Mac's friends.

I took it in to the dealer and the work order said they lubed the rails or something like that, but it did not make any difference. I will have them take another shot at it the next time I need service since the passenger side mirror doesn't seem to have the problem.

To follow up on my previous post, I just had my truck in dealer service for several minor items, including the vibrating driver side camper mirror. They replaced that mirror and it seems to be better.

Quick question from a newbie as it seems you might know. Is it possible to reprogram the '05's to have seating/mirror/radio recall based on driver 1/2 keyfobs like the '04 say Denali's?

Thanks,
Don

Max Payne
11-22-2004, 10:16 AM
Only if you have the memory seat button on the drivers door panel. Otherwise you only get radio presets and a number on the back of your key fob. The reason that they cannot simply be reprogrammed is that there are position sensors in the power seat/mirror motors on equipped vehicles, as well as memory seat/mirror modules.

Oilbrnr
11-22-2004, 11:27 AM
Well I am ordering an SLT with the 10 way power seats/memory, but the local dealer said that GM stopped the 1-2 keyfob because of too many customer compliants, and radios built after 03/2004 will not change to driver 1/2 preset either.

My '04 Denali that was built 02/2004, has radio, pedal, mirror and driver seat presets tied to fob 1/2 so that when I hit the button to unlock, everything is set the way I like it.

Is my dealer wrong about the '05 changes, or can that feature be 'added' back? I'd assume it is a software change rather than hardware...

I will try to research this further and get back to you.

05 Chevrolet/GMC/Cadillac/Hummer H2 All Full Size Trucks and Utilities Changes with Driver Personalization - kw seat memory mirror pedal HVAC radio DIC RKE FOB key program remote #PIT3163 - (Sep 14, 2004)
05 Chevrolet/GMC/Cadillac/Hummer H2 All Full Size Trucks and Utilities Changes with Driver Personalization
.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:
Starting in 2005, all full size trucks and utilities have had a change to the way driver personalization operates. Vehicles equipped with memory seats RPO AN3 will now only recall seat, mirror (DL3), and pedal (JF4) settings for driver 1 and 2 from the buttons located on the drivers door panel. The key fobs will no longer recall memory positions. Radio presets, HVAC (CJ2) and DIC (UK3) setting are now set to the vehicle, meaning there is only one setting for both drivers.

Recommendation/Instructions:
No repairs should be made as this is normal operation.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.

Models:

Looks like your dealer was right...

Max Payne

...But, this make me wonder if the BCM can be programmed to recognize the driver 1/2 key fobs after the sale...
"The Body Control Module software version determines the personalization features available. Standard software is the factory installed version and allows memory seat, mirrors, and adjustable pedal positions to be recalled from the Driver Door Memory Switch only. The Enhanced software will enable the memory positions to be recalled from the Driver 1 and Driver 2 key fobs."

 Well shoot, thanks for looking it up.

Do you think it can be reversed though?

Max Payne
11-22-2004, 12:47 PM
If I am reading the quote in my last post correctly, which is straight out of the SI2000 service info for 2005 K-trucks, it appears that it CAN be programmed to recognize the 1/2 key fobs. I will have to try it on one when i get a chance.

Are you guys finding the camper/towing mirrors adaquite for your towing needs? I still have a pr of McKesh mirrors from my other tow vehicle and find they will extend quite a bit further than the camper mirrors and I have large spot mirrors to boot. I'm considering replacing them with the folding mirrors and back to running the McKesh's while towing. How you guys doing.

Oilbrnr
12-02-2004, 02:17 PM
I'm currious as well. I ordered the truck with the power extenders, but I do have the McKesh mirrors from my last TV. They are nice, but it would be nice not to have to use them. I will miss the auto-dimming feature that is on the SLT's regular mirrors. B/U curb tilt doesn't do much for me on my Denali, so no biggie there...

I find the power extending mirrors to be inadequate. A little 2" stick on convex helped greatly, but I'm still wishing for better mirrors from the factory. I guess I wish they were taller, instead of wider, so I can see what's near my truck. Not what's in the ditch. Okay, I'm exaggerating a little, but you know what I mean. Maybe I'm still trying to adapt from my old "objects are closer than they appear" mirror. Tim
