Has anyone seen a mod to make our ext-cab windows into power windows?

Thanks,

if you're talking roll down power windows, you're in for a ton of
work. if you mean power the existing windows, it could be done by
installing the window operators from a mini van. The hard part
would be wiring. Not a real hard mod, but time consuming for
sure...

It sure would be nice. Those windows are useless to operate by the front seat passengers, unless, you "pretink" to open them . . . http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

You read my mind, I'm dying to convert the rear push out's to power. Thanks GM for the 1973 accessory.

I noticed on my grandma's new trailblazer they power out... Which is still useless, I would rather have them power all the way down...

Those push out windows are useless. Power or even manual roll down would be a big improvement.

This kind of project sounds like a BIG PITA. . . I'm not sure I'd want to try something like that. It would be a cool feature for your extended cabbers, but why didn't you just go with the crew cab if you wanted real windows? Not flaming just wondering. I guess sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Mounting & wiring (I hope) is going to be the worst part. I have a friend who has a mini-van with power swing-out windows. I'm not sure how the motors mount because I haven't paid that much attention until now. I was hoping someone out there had already made a kit.

As far as becoming a PITA, you could be right. Then again, it may not be. If the motors can use the existing snap-out mounts, I'll only have problems getting the wiring. Then it may become easier if I can get my truck's computer to think it's a crew-cab.

One of the reasons I didn't get a crew cab is that it wouldn't fit in my garage with a long bed. I needed the long bed, not the four doors, and the extended cab fit the bill nicely.

You could always build a 9" extension for the back of the truck out the back of the garage. . . ):h

Sounds like you just want them to power out, not down. . .That would be a lot easier, but still a big PITA IMO.

Yeah, I'm not looking for them to power down. Just because F**d has them on theirs....

I'm just trying to get them to power out.

I saw a truck a while back in a magazine that had this feature... Not sure how they did it, just read about it and saw some pics. Think it was in truckin magazine, but not sure how long ago..

Seems like you could do something with a cam action rod up through the C-pillar that was attached to the current mechanism. As the rod rotated, it would pivot out the current mechanism and just push the window out.

Use some short travle liner actuators from select products.

cool, you might have to make a couple piece actuator to get the unlock/open action you need. . . I still haven't gotten used to all the cool gadgets that are available nowadays. . .

BA, What's a couple piece actuator? I need smaller words

Why the heel are you guys nuking this out and trying to over engineer it? Minivans have had the same windows since the beginning. They also have power actuators. You could go to a salvage yard and pick up a pair, I'd bet that the ones from a venture would just about bolt right in. Get your self a window switch bezel from a CC and some switches and put it all together. With an pre 03 you could be able to get a CC widow switch set and wire it to work, I've seen it done but to control air bags. 03 and up you'd have to mount switches on top of the DDM and wire around it since it worked on Data bus. You could still use a CC bezel for a clean look though. This is kinda funny, I thought about doing this to my buds EC about a year ago, just to do it. If I ever do one of these, I'll pass on the info...

Ox, That's what I had in mind. Then someone started talking about piece actuators and that's when they lost me.

I was telling a customer abut this today, his brother in-law works at a local salvage yard, so he's going to give him a call and see about getting the parts. I'll keep you guys posted...
