I have been searching for about an hour, and have yet to find a similar problem, so hope I don't offend anyone with this.
We have a 02 D/A , 3500 crew cab LS 4x4, with just under 150,000 miles. The truck is totally stock, and used primarily to tow a 15,000 lb. 5th wheel RV, or a 10,000 lb. car trailer.
We just recently had all injectors replaced under warranty after it started blowing blue smoke.
About a week after the injectors were replaced, a friend gave us a "Edge Chip". I was happy with the truck before the chip, but very impressed with performance on the "Edge".
After running with the chip for about 500 miles,I traded the "Edge" chip in for a new one with the "Attitude" module, mostly because it seemed to be the best option to monitor the EGT.
Installed the new chip and module and about 200 miles down the road, the BATTERY light started flashing, the tach was going crazy, and of course, the engine was rev'ing up and down until it died.
The engine restarted easy, but about 5 miles down the road it happened again. I removed the chip and harness from the stock harness and had no futher occurance for about a week.
I re-installed the chip and a few days later it did it again. I occured a few times. I set the "Attitude" module to the stock level, and it still happened.
I removed the entire "Edge" chip and harness once again, and it has yet to happen again, but have only a 100 miles or so on the truck since.
Each time this has happened, I have been cruising (not towing) between 60 & 70 mph on the interstate. I am in the Denver area, so altitude is about 5500 feet. The first two times it happened during a heavy thunderstorm, but has also happened in all weather conditions from high 60's to high 90's. All instruments, except tach, are reading normal each time it happens. EGT is in the 600-800 range. After the first two times this has happened, I have learned to just put the tranny in neutral, turn the key off, restart the engine and continue on my way.
Some other information. I have been trying to track down a coolant leak, so the skid plates were removed the entire time this has been happening. The leak has been located and repaired, no occurance since, but again, just 100 miles or so since. The leak was a bad hose at the rear of the engine (something to do with turbo cooling I think).
I sent an e-mail to Edge Products "tech-support", but have yet to get a response.
I have been told that the problem is related to the injectors, and also that the "Edge" chip is at fault. (I don't have much faith in the person that thinks the chip is the problem)
So, is anyone out there familar with a problem like this, and if so, any insight would be greatly appreciated.
