Posted this before in First Generation D/Max and got lot's of views but no replies and I just realized it is wrong spot.I really would appreciate some help here guys cuz i'm really worried about this.I was hoping this would be my last vehicle purchase but now i'm starting to wonder.

I have tranny oil dripping from the bell housing(??? sorry i can't be more descriptive) that is behind my tranny filter/tranny pan at the point where the drive shaft connects. Not a lot-but continuous and annoying.I did crawl under and took a wrench to the nuts.ONE of the took about a 1/4 of a turn or less to tighten and the rest that are oil damp were tight.

On second though i got under again and cleaned up the area around the bolts in the bottom half of the housing and found a crack in the housing where one of the bolts are attached. What could cause this and what am i facing as far as repair.Having trouble attaching a pic.

Have i offended the forum in some way? If I have I would like to know so that i can hopefully correct it.Regardless of the question's I have asked here there always was always at least one reply in the past? Is my question too vague.I am trying to get some EXPERT comments before i go to the dealer and get the runaround.

There is a bit more info i can add.At 26,000KM the tranny in my truck was replaced cuz it was leaking. They told me it was due to the way it was CAST and it was POROUS.Ok,they replaced the complete tranny. Is it possible that the tech OVERTORQUED the bolts and this has caused the crack? I now have 139000 KM on the truck and this drip just started. If it had been overtorqued would the problem not have surfaced before this?

Everybody is out raking leaves.

I'll help you out a little by responding. I think you have an unusual case so few people here know anything about it.

Are you talking about the trans tailshaft (housing extension)? if so it can be replaced w/ the removal of a couple of bolts, and some moto seal (a white silicone made by permatex for joining aluminum). You might have to drain some fluid from the trans, but not a difficult task. let me know how you did.
