I just had my oil changed today with amsoil synthetic 15W40. Both filter and oil changed every 7,500. I asked the mechanic what kind of filters they used, he told me oem which was called "Champions". Has anyone ever heard of a champion oil filter...pros or cons?

Champion Labs makes filters for a number of brands, ranging from Mobil 1 to WalMart Supertech. They also make OEM filters for Ford, Chrysler, and AC Delco

They are the biggest filter manufacturer, but just don't sell many with their own name on it. Frankly, I don't know if the ones labeled Champion are are among the better or worse ones they manufacture. But even the worse ones are better than bottom of the barrel Frams and Purolators.

I agree make the "supertech walmart ones etc", I woudl avoid them. Bob the oil guy cut filters apart and took a look at bypass valves etc. Delco and fleet guard ranked well.

I'm getting ready to buy my first oil filter for the 1st change. I looked up the specs on the AC Delco website for the OEM filter. It is rated to 25 micron particle size. Looked up the comparable WIX filter, and it is rated at 8 microns. Wow! That's a big difference!
