Bought a used pump and PMD today for $275 and unplugged my old PMD and lplugged the new one in. It has a #5 resistor and I don't know what # is in my original PMD. Is this going to hurt anything if they aren't the same? It seems to be blowing a little more black smoke, but I have a 78 code showing. The 35 and 36 are gone so far. If all continues to work well I will remote mount the PMD with a cooler. Thanks!

i'm under the impression that there's not a lot of volume difference between the various resistors. #5 should work fine. Besides, there's the "re-learn" that needs to happen, so the ECM will run under the old setting until that point in time.

David,
Are you familiar with the home TDC learn proceedure?
it's been explained a few times. You get it warm, turn it off. turn the ign. on enine off and hold the pedal down for a full minuite then key off then restart. It should deifne the advance range for the new pump. This would be noticed as a stumble when you restart it.Edited by: quantum mechanic

make sure to keep key off for atleast 30 seconds.

Quantam, Didn't put the pump on, hoping the PMD fixes poblems (so far, so good). Do I need to do the relearn with the PMD or just when replacing the pump?

Nevermind then. I was thinking you switched pumps.

The PCM Powerdown procedure relearns resistor value as well.

I'll give it a shot, but with the vac pump not working I don't knows if it will do any good.
