I recently sold my old ’77 Nova (got $100 for it) which was my daily driver. I am now driving my ’84 6.2L to work on a daily bases, 13 miles one way. The ’84 has spent its entire life as a seldom driven vehicle. It would sometimes sit for two or more weeks without being started. I have noticed that in the last month or so that it has started running much better then I can ever remember it running. As an example, at one point on my way home, I stop at a red light, I have a short flat spot then the road goes up hill. Before, it would have to drop out of overdrive to climb the hill. Now it climbs the hill in overdrive with no problem. My question is: What has changed? I have not done any work on the engine, haven’t even changed a fuel filter.
Any comments would be appreciated.Edited by: ag4gt

I don't think it's all that good for them to sit aruond. It could have been carboned up, parts corroded, old fuel in the lines. You might say that your breaking the motor in again.

I am with War Wagon on this one. I firmly believe that a daily driver, which is well maintained will out last any vehicle that is only driven once or twice a month. It is not good for cars to let them sit for extended periods of time.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Old rotten diesel fuel not only stinks, but it certainly doesn't perform very well either. After extended sitting periods, internals of the injection pump can start to stick and bind, like the metering valve. When this happens, it can cause hard/no start, surging and stalling.
