It's getting cold and you guessed it the fan motor isn't working. When I move the dial from defrost to floor heat I can hear the whisper of the vents moving. But no blower.
The truck is a 98 sierra with AC. 6.5 L TD
Any ideas/tips what/how to trouble shoot.
thanks

Did you check to see if your getting power to the blower? Or check the fuse?

You can laugh at this (or me) all you want, but only after you try this...
Take a small hammer or some other similar object and tap on the side of the blower motor. Do this with the truck running and the fan switch set to high.
My motor stuck last winter. A couple taps with pliers pretending to be a hammer and the motor kicked right in and has ran flawlessly ever since. I know this has worked for others as well.
It doesn't cost you anything to try it. The motor is the big round thing in the firewall down near where the passenger's feet rest while riding. It's got an insulated cover over it that you may or may not have to pull back a little to get a good whack on the motor.Edited by: w_huisman

my dad tapped his blower motor to life for a year till it stopped working all together. I replaced the blower (loads of fun)and it works better than ever.

Is this fuse # 12 in the fuse panel next to the drivers door? Any other fuses etc. that should be checked? Location and #'s please.
I will tap the motor as suggested and see what happens.
Any other ideas? All are welcome.
Thanks

Fan seems to be temperature sensitive. Once the motor heats up the blower works fine. Is this normal? Just doesn't blow until the engine heats up.
Heath Diesel PMD remote relocation is working great truck is starting well. I am happy with my '98 Sierra 6.5 L TD.
