Hey I'm new here and I have a 2001 2500HD with the duramax and allison. I have been looking at programmers and exhausts for it. I recently went to my local napa and ordered dynomax exhaust from the cat back. Since ive been reading, all ive heard is good things about exhaust such as lowers EGT, give a little more power and in some cases a little better fuel mileage. Well heres my question, My dad tonight was down at the local gas station where we get all our cars repaired and was talking to the owner/head mechanic and my dad told him that I was gonna put aftermarket exhaust on my truck and he responded by saying o i better warm up my tow truck(powerstroke) because he'll break down right away with that on. My question is, will it harm my truck or is this guy just full of cr*p and trying to sound like he knows what hes talkin about? Thanx a lot guys for any input

I put the banks exhaust on my '04 lly, and did in fact improve the fuel mileage. But what's better is I lowered the engine temp. While towing our 5th wheel this summer the temperature was an issue on hot days at higher altitudes. The next thing I notied was that the motor was slightly more responsive coming off idle, which makes sense. I plan on installing an after market air intake, but as yet I've not been to happy with the research results. Besides improving the drivability of your truck, it makes it sound good too, and that's a plus.

hey JMERIK1 thanx a lot for replying! Thats what i thought, i figured it can only help my truck not hurt it(and make it sound good at the same timehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif) but this guy has to go make a big deal about it to my dad, and make it seem like im killing my truck by doing this. Thanx in advance for anymore responses!

01Grey2500HD,

There is a lot of that BS out there, the Ford 6.0 was supposed to not shift right if you changed the exhaust, what a crock.

Get your system installed you'll be OK. Except you didn't get our system, and for that we will never forgive you, just kidding!!! If you need a programmer or module call us we have GUARANTEED pricing.

01grey - as far as I'm concerned the dynomax sounds really good...Also,
when you get the kit, throw the clamps they give you in the garbage and
get some flat band style clamps.....(napa has them, or visit your local
heavy truck dealership) These clamps seal better, and they don't
rape the pipe the way a conventional clamp does

It is just an exhaust, a piece of pipe. How on earth could that cause a problem.

Banks 4" for last 20,000 plus miles. No cat on this baby as OR does not require. Luv the sound. Laurie.

I dont' think it's the exhaust so much as all the power mods that will come next. Maby he has a crystal ball and sees big chips and tranny mods in your future.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif You better run away from here now before it's to late.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
