Almost every GM truck from 99 up has gets this problem eventually. There is a TSB to replace a steering shaft but it sounds like it is on backorder. You might have to wait a bit to get it fixed. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

do a search for the famous chevy front wheel "clunk" - not sure if
there is a tsb listed or not but all the dealers have the info as its
pretty common

NorCal 2500HD, go to the "TSB" section of this forum, and its all
there. Just print it out & take it to the dealer with
you. It list the TSB #, and step by step instructions on the GM
recommended cure. Good Luck, DinoMaxhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

For what it's worth, I have had the steering shaft, and the steering box bearing replaced at different times. And the faults or rattles were detected going around bumpy cloverleafs only, straight line driving never indicated any faults.

good luck
