You guys were a lot of help on my 7.3 question so thanks a bunch Diesel Place. I have a new question but this time for the Chevy guys. I have a 1983 Full Size 4x4 Blazer with a 6.2 diesel in it. The motor is blown but the tranny in it is newly rebuilt. The tranny has O/D in it. My question is, will the tranny out of my 6.2 Blazer bolt up to a 350 motor in a 1989 Full Size 4x4 Jimmy? If you need more info let me know and I will try to find it out. Thanks Guys!!!!

Yes, but you will need to change to a gas motor torque converter. All gm diesels and gas motors have the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing unlike the other makes.

Yes, bolt patterns are the same as are the motor mounts. I have a freind who put a 350 in place of his diesel and all he had to do was chisel off the counter weights on the flex plate from the diesel before he put it on the 350 so it wouldnt be out of balance. I dont remember him replacing the torque convertor though. He has driven it for the last 6 years plowing with no issues.

The diesel trans should be a TH-400 and the 89 gasser should be a 700R4. You will need to install the transfer case from the diesel also as well as the drive shafts do to the difference in lengths of the transmission's.

So if I understand you correctly woodchuck2, all I have to do is drop the old tranny, transfer case and drive shaft from the 89 jimmy and put in the tranny, transfer case and drive shaft from the 83 blazer without any modifications. Is that what you are saying? Does anybody have anything else to add? Thanks Guys!!!

Yup, there is a difference in length between the two tranny's so the length of the driveshafts will be different and the output shaft size and spline count is different also which is why you will need the transfer case from the diesel. You will probably have to use the crossmember also.
