Anyone out there running one of these? How do you like it? How is the sound?

I am running a straight pipe now, but with a state inspection coming up and a wife who hates the sound, I would like to install a new exhaust.

My mechanic has a set. They sound very good. The two 5" tips look
sharp from the back.

I just installed the MBRP T-409 exhaust from the Turbo all the way
back, I decided to buy the front pipe to remove the CAT for maximum
flow. While driving I didn't notice much change in tone or loudness
from the motor but definitley louder out the end of the system, but not
too loud. The MBRP muffler can be installed with the internal fins
facing either toward or away from the exhaust flow direction, they
recommend away for max flow, but if you wish you can put it in the
other way for some addinional muffling. I, like most, have a wife that
isn't in to loud exhaust, so we both are happy with the MBRP. Worth the
purchase!

Between these options (Al, 409, 304, singles/duals) is there a loudness difference?Edited by: BlueDMax

No loudness difference as they all use the same muffler design. Go with the one that fits your budget and/or weather conditions.

I'm running the 304 cool duels and love it. I went with the 304 cuz, I don't feel like doing exhaust work every five years livin in Wisconsin. It all depends on when you live and how much $$ you got.

I have the 409 and am more than happy......

I had to wrestle it a bit to get it to stay where I wanted and not aim down to much.....

Sound wise it is not LOUD in my opinion, but my other truck is a 350 w/ Not cat.and 40-series Flowmasters and is LOUD and MEAN...

I wish I had gotten the MUFflEr DELEtE as well, becuase I want more TURBO SPOOL and less RUMBLE... Wish it had more of a CUMMINS noise but the D-max isn't gopng to do that...

Get, it you want be unhappy...

BlueDMax,

The only differences you might hear is caused by the tips you might or might not select. I can't tell the difference but there have been customers that have told me that the single wall rolled edge tips have a little bit different tone than the dual wall tips. Probably a very slight thing, as i can't tell the difference at all.

BigWill_21,

Can't remember if you have the single or duals, but if you have the single 4 inch system we have a muffler delete in stainless and aluminized if you want to add it.

I'm putting the aluminized system on tonight. No salt on the roads or humidity around here, aluminized lasts just fine. I'll post on how I think it is holding up after a couple months of winter.

Has anyone go from the single exit to duals to saw how much more noticeable the sound is? I know it will seem louder because the exhaust will also be coming out on the driver's side but I'm looking for as quite as possible.

Is the Banks a better install than the MBRP. How about performance?? Do you get the same approx HP gain with all of the Exhaust's??

My LLY has an MBRP 304 system. As a cat-back it was only very slightly louder than stock...hardly noticeable. This is surprising when you look at the muffler....it just has a straight tube through the middle and spiral rows of small louvers which you install facing back. Doesn't look like it would do anything, but it seems to. Then I installed the front pipe with no cat. It's louder but still not loud, and I didn't want loud. Noisiest is around 1700-1800 rpm. The turbo has less low-end lag during acceleration, and you can hear it whine. But honestly, it doesn't sound very good at idle....makes a whooshing kind of reverse vacuum cleaner noise at the tailpipe. Don't know about mileage yet - this thing has a 53 gallon tank and doesn't need filling very often. I plan to chip and wanted a bigger exhaust. But on a stock engine I'm not sure this thing was worth bothering with for what it cost. On a stock engine, I'd probably just leave the exhaust alone.

I am pretty sure GMC-2002-Dmax has, PM him and see what he
thinks. He may also have talked about it in an earlier thread but
I can't find it now.

tkeezer,

Did you install the exhaust system yourself? How did the CAT come out? Do you have to remove the bracket for the CAT which is bolted to the Ali?

i just put the MBRP T409 stainless Exhaust on and the only complaint I have is I dont like the hanger clamps.
when you order an extended cab short bed system it should have the 9 1/2" cut off the front pipe and hangers should be welded where they belong. also add some band clamps.

other than that very nice system.
