Has anyone evaluated the, Racor RK32313 supplemental fuel filter? Does it seem to be worth the cost vs other options? How is the install?

Thanks in advance

I installed it on my truck. Pretty easy install. Expect to spill some fuel when you cut the steel lines...Someone left a line cap that I found inside my frame rail. Worked real good. I cut the line and slipped it on the line while I was prepping the hoses. Also, BEFORE you do this install, go to the Vendor forum and buy one of those fuel filter bleeder valves from LanduytG (javascript openWin'pop_up_profile.asp?PF=582&FID=11','profile ','toolbar=0,location=0,status=0,menubar=0,scrollb ars=1,resizable=1,width=590,height=425'). Youll see a post there somewhere for them. You'll thank Greg for the invention, and me for giving you that tip. Otherwise, when you go to prime your system to get the air out, youll get fuel everywhere.

WIth respect to pricing, pricing is not an issue to me. I went with the Racor because it has a WIF sensor that tees directly into the OEM DIC. Also, it has a heater in the fuel bowl. Thirdly, since Racor makes the GM fuel filters anyway, your prob not going to have any issues with warranty.

If you go with a Nictane system, I think the fuel filter hangs down too low. Other than that, its a good system. I just wanted the WIF and heater that the OEM units have, and the Racor does that.

I bought my ssystem from Oregon Fuel Injection. You can go to the same guy that sells that fuel filter bleeder valve: LanduytG (javascript openWin'pop_up_profile.asp?PF=582&FID=11','profile ','toolbar=0,location=0,status=0,menubar=0,scrollb ars=1,resizable=1,width=590,height=425'). He has put together a kit that is almost identical to that one for a bit less money.

If you go with AirDog or FASS, be aware that those are lift pump systems, and unless your racing, is a waste of money. If your stock or running most of the programs on this forum, you shouldnt need a lift pump IMHO.

I like the Nicktane System. It has a 2micron filter of large capacity and is not to diffucult to install. notice one of the replies mentions the filter hangs to low for him. I haven't heard of anyone having any difficultiies with its installed position.

I think the Nicktane is just fine. I think he had an older
bracket where the filter did set lower, but mine is just fine.
Plenty far up and out of the way. The bracket is pretty much
nuclear weapon proof.

One advantage to the Racor is that if you have a dealer install it for you, they can get GM's official blessing and if becomes part of the truck and there will be NO warranty issues. I do not know if this is possible with the other brands, I am familiar with Racor though. It is available with the stock 10 micron filter or optionally there is a 2 micron.

As I have said in a prior post, I spoke with the engineering folks at Racor and asked if it would be beneficial to use the 2 micron. The response was to just let it get the bigger stuff and the primary get the smaller stuff, ie: split the load between the 2 filter units.

We paid the dealer to install ours and it is filed in the history of the truck as part of the truck. Could I have installed it cheaper, yes. However, with the price of the engines and the price to fix the components, I did not want to leave ANYTHING to chance that if there was a problem that I would have a warranty fight on my hands

Bill,

Now i'm curious.. every racor i've seen hangs down further than the CAT due to the mounting location.. have you ever measured it from the ground to the bottom of the filter? i never have but you've sparked my interest!
