: Possible fix for excessive in-cab noise..

I am a Tech at a Chevy dealer in Southern Oregon. I have noticed on several (15) New Truck PDI's that there is a very loud in-cab noise, almost as if someone routed the exhaust through the firewall. Some do it only in reverse, some do it all the time. There is a heat shield attached to the lower firewall, behind the engine, that I have found contacting the down-pipe heat shield bolt head on the driver side of the engine. I can stuff my arm down there and push the firewall heat shield back about one inch and it fixes it. Just thought I would share this if anyone else is experiencing it. See ya.

Got Diesel?

I haven't heard that noise but the wife complains about the turbo whine at 1,800 RPM. Got a fix for that?

Tell her you can't hear the turbo whine over her whinehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif. Seriously, I haven't heard of a complaint that it is too loud, so I wouldn't have a fix for that.

You will not notice it with an aftermarket exhaust install, as it is the heatshield on the "true downpipe" off the back of the turbo. This does not get changed, and as far as I know, nobody has bothered to make one yet.

ahh, gotcha... yeah someone had to explain to me about the "true" downpipe vs the one all the parts places advertise. I will reach up there and check while I am under the truck, thanks for the info
