: LLY and Edge...PROBLEMS, PLEASE READ!!!!!
BigWill_21 11-07-2004, 10:53 PM I have had the Juice and Attitude for like 2,000 miles now... However it was around the same time that the weather turned cold that I installed it...
I am getting the Fuel Knock and White Smoke at Idle problem.... NOISE IS HORRIBLE, SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE IS USING MY FIREWALL TO PLAY DRUMS ON.... Stutters and Shudders at Idle... BUT, It goes away at 180* though AS SOON AS IT HITS IT!!!!!
Figured it was Edge problem since at 180*, GONE...
Unplugged ATTITUDE - Still KNOCKS, not quite as bad!!!
What to do, I am goign to unplug it all tommorow and see what happens... I am scared it isn't the UPDATE though and that it is INJECTORS... Also it will be a PITA to remove my Attitude, it is run threw my Center console... What if they notice the wire for the EGT Probe and start askign questions to blame it on soemhtign I have done????
Anyone w/ OPINIONS or IDEAS????
Thanks
WILL

Diesel Power 11-08-2004, 12:33 AM Do a search for tbone1227, he described the exact same thing, down to the comment about 180*.. i think he got it fixed..
BigWill_21 11-09-2004, 06:59 PM OK, I am taking ti in tommorow to get it re-flashed..
I took the Juice out and the wierd knock pretty much went away... (Juices timing adlustments must exagerate it)
However, at th elight this afternoon on the way home form class truck was completely cold, i pulled out and kind got into it maybe 50% throttle for 2 secs. and got on up to the stop light about 1/8th mile away.. BOOM started shuddering and White Smoke started puffing out again...
I have scanned like 300 posts, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE RE-FLASH WILL FIX THE PROBLEM WHEN THE JUICE IS PLUGGED BACK IN, SINCE IT IS WORST THEN AND BETTER WHEN NOT INSTALLED???? If it doesn't fix the problem will it hurt the truck to drive with the fuel Knock and Juice plugged in????
Thanks

I appreciate what the folks above have added and advised... But come on everyone!!!!! This is rediculous, do you have to be a 2000 post D-max racer to get help... I always get ZERO-help....
I am not a Diesel Professor and need help!!!! I don't want to just waste all the $$$$ i recently spent on EDGE products to have to drive around listening to sounds thata Abrams tank can't even drown out...
Mostly I am scared this Knock and Smoke is damaging my Much Loved Tow-Rig.. I depend on thsi thing to get my Off-road rig around safelyand to get me every where day-to-day..
So if ya have any information or opinions LET ME KNOW... IF ya think I SUCK to but still have some input let me hear that too... I just want to find out if ths KNOCK is damaging my truck.. I know OFF-ROADand TBI, not Diesel and Computer Tuning..
THANKS

BigWill_21 11-09-2004, 10:24 PM Alright cool, so the question is does the Re-flash fix it when he Juice/Attitude are plugged in??? And does this KNOCK and SMOKING cause irrepairble damage....
THANKS EVERYONE

Stelth450 11-09-2004, 10:35 PM Get the reflash, I am a Parts Manager at a Chevrolet dealer. I have seen several come in and get the reflash and all is well after that. I got the reflash done to mine even though I wasn't having any of the stated problems. But it seems to have worked on the others ones that have had it done. As far as being concerned about your dealer finding out about it being juiced. If they do, they must be real horses patoots. Most dealers in this area will kinda turn and look the other way. We want to keep the customer happy, so they will come back and see us again. As long as the truck has not been just thrashed, you shouldn't have any problems.
tbone1227 11-09-2004, 10:36 PM i dont think its causing irepairable problems at all - what happens is
adding a box or programmer seems to make injector problems come to the
surface faster. I pretty much had the same thing that you are
describing, took it in for the reflash and it was worse, with or
without any programs - took it back and then they tell me i have 2
injectors out and a bad egr http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif
.. Just got it back sunday and all is well so far, ive hooked
power back up and its all good - i just hope it stays that way.
The funny thing about mine was that Nick and i had checked my balance
rates some time ago and it showed injector #7 & #1 out of whack,
which i had told them about but they didnt seem to care, as it turns
out, those were the ones they replaced http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif . Get the reflash, run stanadyne ( it helps ), and if it doesnt fix it, go back til they get it right.
dpower 11-09-2004, 11:16 PM Big Will...if ya run into problems PM me. I have a contact in NC that could help ya out. He is around the charlotte area.
BigWill_21 11-09-2004, 11:46 PM Thanks guys..... Thsi is the kind fo stuff I was hoping to hear...
I can't find Stanadyne(sp.) all o can find here is Diesel Kleen they have 2 versions one claims higher Cetane... Where can I get this Stanadyne additive..

05 D/A 2500 11-10-2004, 12:20 AM Check the dealers parts department, alot of them carry it.
tbone1227 11-10-2004, 12:53 AM also check with the supporting vendors or on line search, you should be
able to find it pretty cheap. good luck and keep us posted
BH in AZ 11-10-2004, 11:35 AM Previous posts mentioned getting Stanadyne at some of the NAPA stores. I noticed that some of the local fuel injector rebuild shops carry it along with independent diesel repair shops.
You can also order online. An example would be BlueRidgediesel.com. Their prices after shipping are close to what I have paid locally. It would be great to buy from a supporting vendor on this site, but I have not noticed any that sell Stanadyne.
Kennedy 11-10-2004, 11:41 AM FPPF Total Power is an excellent additive. Better than Stanadyne IMHO, and better value.
partsguy662 11-10-2004, 12:23 PM Good luck finding stanadyne at Napa guys...I have looked through every book I have, and no dicehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif I might try a few of the chemical companies that don't sell to Napa, but to jobbers....Then again, doing that drives the price up, and you would be better off to buy it online from one of the vendors that support this site..... BigWill_21 11-10-2004, 10:48 PM Well took truck in this afternoon...
Found 2 new updates and got them uploaded.. Re-Installed Juice/Attitude combo and fired it up.. Engine temp. was 139* so I am not sure if it was cold enough to trigger soem of the knocking, but ti definately is Idling and Running smoother already. Got it up to operating temp. and it is MOST DEFINATELY A NEW BEAST.
In Level 5 before it would kind of GAG OUT and be CHOPPY, Level 3 was not much better!!!
AFTER UPDATE, it is launching much harder already but the Tranny is needing to relearnnd I don't want to romp on it to much until I am sure it is like it should be and working properly..
Supposed to be below freezing again tonight, so in the morning it should be plenty cold and will definately show the "COLD KNOCK" as I call it!!!! As of tonight it hasn't studdered or put out any white smoke... Will take it easy and test it for the next few days..
THANKS FOR THE INPUT EVERYONE.......

nak-nak 11-12-2004, 02:19 PM I'm only offering my own personal advice: Any vehicle will come with certain motor or drivetrain problems. You must first work out the bugs or start with a good running problem free truck. Then do one modification at a time checking each modification for gains and loses. Set a goal for the performance or fuel econony desired and don't forget about your allowed budget. Some of you are getting upset and frustrated chasing ghosts. Your just adding on to an inherent problem.

HUH? What are you talking about????? Their weren't any ghosts, I had legitimate problems.. The Re-flash with updated programming fixed it...
The noise happened to come when I installed the Juice and Attitude, which was coincidently when it got cold here in NC... MY truck has driven better than ever for the past 2 days now!!! I love the EDGE stuff!!!
baimpala 11-12-2004, 09:01 PM nak-nak,
We're supposed to have a budget with these things? NOW you tell me. . . http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
nak-nak 11-12-2004, 10:53 PM I'm into this truck @ $55,000 and still finding more assessories to buy. Please help me I'm a Duramax junkie. Thinking on a two tone color scheme black over candy apple red? How about a moon roof? Looking at a DVD with a 12" screen. God, I love this truck. Maybe I should have bought 4 Dodge diesel work trucks instead? Am I the only nut out there?
ROBGMC 12-08-2004, 09:30 PM I Have The Problems With My Juice. But I Think The Juice Is Compounding A Problem With The Truck. I Hope The Reflash Will Fix It. Like You Said I Spent Alot Of Money On The Juice And I Love The Extra Power.
