I guess there isn't one. So how is detonation controllled under high heat, high load conditions? Or is it?

You are talking about a diesel. Think about it. That could be why you are not getting any replies.

Diesel engine's run on knock. Knocking is defined as compression detonation on a gas engine.


With no sparkplugs.... diesels run on knock. In fact with pilot injection we knock quite a bit, which is why non HPCR diesels are so darn loud... all the 'knock' occurs as a single rather than a multiple event
