Boy did I do it!!

Pulled the driveshaft to change u-joints. Changed the back, no problem. Used vise to press in, beautiful. Doing the front, using the vise and socket to put pressure, didn't move, started hitting with hammer, little harder, harder. WHAT *%*$*$#*#*# CRACKED THE TAIL SHAFT that comes out of the transmission that holds the front u-joint! Can't believe it, right around where the u-joint fits in. it. Man am I seeing red!!!!!

Any ideas? I need this truck at 4:30 AM on Tuesday morning. I pulled numbers off the tail shaft and going to try to find something. I am done with front u-joints since I don't have a press! Hopefully I can find something in Cleveland or Columbus on Monday

Find a shop that specializes in only driveshafts, some will repair and balance the shaft in one day. I learned my listsen by bending the yoke on a drive shaft about 30 years ago. A little heat does wonders.
The drive shaft shop near us specializes in performance & muscle cars, but will also do farm equipment, mowers, trucks, etc.

I've got one along with an alluminum driveshaft that would fit your truck. More that 10hr away though :( .

PM me if you are interested.

Six speed, Thanks for the offer but 10 hr one way, 20 round trip is a little too far. Peppermint I will check to see if some driveshaft shops in the area can touch it. It has to be as strong as new due to some heavy weights that I haul. I will check first thing on Monday.

I am still wondering price of a new tail shaft. $300-700? Anyone know. I am kicking around trying to locate one at a junk yard as well.

Probably only a couple hundred bucks. Theres no fixing it, It will have to be replaced.

Call schram auto in Michigan. They seem to deal with lots of Late model GM wrecks. Good Luck

After checking in Salvage yards around OHIO and checking local custom/clutch shop I checked with a local GM dealer who located tailshaft yoke in Lansing Mich. I drove up on Monday, picked it up with two new Spicer U-joints and made my appointment Tuesday morning. Everything is OK. Thanks to all who posted and those who called.
