: Duramax vs other diesels
chevy_9465 11-06-2004, 02:12 PM i plan to get a dmax in the next year or so and iv told some ford and dodge owners to just wait till i get it, but they still seem to think i wont stand a chance aginst their cummins and stroker, are they just loyal ford and dodge owners or is their some truth to what their sayin
Blue Max 11-06-2004, 04:32 PM Stock vrs stock they are all about the same. Just pick the one you like and drive it.
Bill Gisse 11-08-2004, 07:34 AM Don't understand why guy's buy a working truck, then try to make a race car out of it and then complain about its performance/reliabiluty. I don't care who's truck can beat my Duramax, it does what I want and thats what counts to me. Buy what you want and enjoy it.
akdiesel 11-08-2004, 10:15 AM Just what do you want to do with the Duramax?
The 6.5 you have is a good motor and capable of most jobs that are called for a light duty truck.

I havent had any perf or reliablity with my truck. I know there are other trucks out there faster than my truck, lotsa cars too. But my truck gets up and moves pretty good. You wouldnt believe the looks from guys running mustangs and the like when you beat em in a 7k truck with light bar and tool box and allhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif Sure there are faster things out there, I got waxed by a supercharged stang but I still had fun. Havent ran across a faster truck than mine yet on the street.
For bang for the buck and cost and easy of getting HP outa it I believe Chevy is on top. And I dont believe any of your ford or dodge buddys with a clue can argue that and if they try......well they dont have a cluehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
ChevyPackin'Heat 11-16-2004, 09:45 PM I believe the primary difference for me was not only the engine, but
the whole truck. FOr a ride, that will work as much as any, and
appointed reasonably nice, roomy, the GM is hands down the ride I would
choose.

Super Diesel 11-17-2004, 12:26 AM Anatomy of the ultimate vehicle. Hook up or slide in your favorite camper and go on vacation cross country or to another country (Mexico or Canada). Come back, go to your favorite Dyno shop and strap down and through a few switches and rip off 500-800hp (dependant on mods and how many switches you through). Run to the local track to put some things to rest with some nay sayers and pull a 11 to 13 second run (dido on the above mentioned). Go back home (gigling about the so called performance cars you just waxed), put the camper back on and go out for the weekend fishing or camping, all in the same truck while getting 15-21 mpg empty or 10-14 fully loaded at big speed. Dmax is where it is at. Isn't modern life wonderful? Edited by: Super Diesel
Tomslick24 11-17-2004, 01:06 AM couldnt have said it any better super diesel.Let a performance auto or rice burner get waxed then put 12 grand on its back for the weekend outing at the lake....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

<DIV>perfectly said, superdiesel, and all of this at a respectable price, and then comes monday, and take it to work, are use it as your work truck which i do, and make a living with it, one vehicle does it all instead of 3 or 4, http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif</DIV>Edited by: fredw
ratlover 11-17-2004, 09:16 AM I'm waiting for next year to tow my buddies low 12 second GN(and very inconsistent running at that) to the track, unhook, and run down the track. He has been talking so much crap it aint even funny. Funny since I have kept my trucks performance underraps and I havent called him out?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif I drive a 7k pound truck daily and plow snow with it......I dont have anything to prove, but some crow will be eaten by a certian slick wearing race gas runing toy vehical driver.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif Oh to be not only beaten by a tow vehical but your tow vehical.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif Now THATS what I'm alking about. Gota get traction, gota get 11's, gotta get NAAAAWShttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
The guy in the stang was pretty cool, we bsed before and after, I may have faired better if we went from a stop but a 20mph rollhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif As soon as he layed into it and I heard the wistle i new I was toasthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif I'm a gracious winner and loser, i wasnt going to bust his bals about being 1/2 my weight. Hell I didnt even mention to the kid in the turboed eclipse that I had 1k of brick in the back of my truck when we ran dead even to 70, he was floored enough as it was(that was in my stock trans juiced days) If thier cool then I'll be cool.
Hired Gun 11-17-2004, 01:42 PM All I can say is that if any diesel wants to toy with a duramax then show them what its all about. I am so sick of the step child image. Funny thing is lots of die hard cummins owners are saying praises of the Duramax!
BlueCrew 04 D/A SB GMC 11-17-2004, 01:57 PM What kind of mods. do ya have to get 440hp and is that(rwhp)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
Another arrival blue Fanhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
IBDMAX'IN 11-17-2004, 04:59 PM I ran 400+ with a quad 215 stacked with the hot juice with a stock tranny. Of course I would have ran over 500 if I didn't limp the stock tranny twice on the dyno jet!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
Keep in mind that was with a stock exhaust without the muffler or cat.Edited by: IBDMAX'IN
Crawler Hauler 11-18-2004, 12:08 PM My stock 2003 has shut many of my Dodge and Ford friends mouths when we run them over the passes loaded heavy. One swore up and down his new 2004 6.0 would run circles around my truck and he'd "wait for me at the top of the passes". Turns out I waited for him at the top! Never seen someone come up with so many excuses why his truck couldn't keep up. Both trucks were loaded with very similar trailers, Jeeps, and slide in campers to within about 500 lbs of each other at 17800 gross. I've learned that any more all about the same and not to bother arguing about it cuz I've had my mouth shut a few times as well. I work mine HARD in the Colorado hills, havn't had any major problems at 40K and couldn't be happier.
travisw_40 11-18-2004, 07:28 PM i was just curious, how many people out there have out ran a 6.0 ford. my roommate says my d-max doesn't stand a chance to his dad's 6.0 with my chip turned on. i say lets run em and hes like well you got a chip. im like well yall say those "big bad ass 6.0" can run so good. lets go. just curious how many yall have out ran. then i was like well my stepdad has a lly lets line them up since they are both stock and they still wimp out and keep talkin s***. just wonderin
