What is your opinion of the plactic hub caps with the plastic nuts that all have to be removed before you get to the real stuff underneath? I find them to be a pain in the posterior and with all the other decent wheel designs as OEM on other vehicles you'd think GM could follow suit and cut costs by getting rid of these things.

I think for the particular wheels that come on the truck they look nicer than a push through style cap would look. Just as an asthetic thing. I do agree they are a PIA when you're pulling wheels off but I've got myself a new set of welds so that's not a problem any more http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

I don't like the plastic lug nut covers..
Lost one on the highway, so I took the rest off. I hate cheesey fake chrome that doesn't stay where it belongs.

They look fine, although a bitch to keep clean . . .

The wheel center is actually a stamped piece of metal surrounded by a bunch of plastic crap including the black lug nuts. I've seen these parts being made and assembled. I was real tempted to grab a handful of the black caps for myself but decided that should I need to replace I could find something nicer looking.
In my field about half of our business are car part manufacturers. You wouldn't believe how chinzy some of this stuff looks before it's painted and coated. Just be glad we don't have the bolt on plastic hubcaps that deluged the late 70's.
