wondering if anyone else when towing a load and coming to a stop the engine downshifts ahead of time (im assuming to assist w engine breakin?) my truck seems to pull all of the fluid out of the power steering resivoir and begin to whine while im on the breaks, fluids completely full when truck is sitting idling. curious if its happened to any of you. mine does it alot

Thats normal in tow haul mode.

I have noticed the same thing on my 02. I notice it more when it downshifts from 2nd and the converter lets go.

I noticed that the last time i towed my trailer in tow/haul mode. I was getting off the highway stopping moderately and my brakes started to kinda fade and i could hear it whining also. Haven't talked to the dealer yet but i will.

How can you tell the power steering fluid is being pulled out of the pump? Do you check it while stopped or is it just hard to steer?

After long trips mine does the same with the brakes and power steering. More noticable on long freeway trips. Mine does it towing or not. My truck goes to the dealer next week and this will be on the list.
Tow haul downshift is normal.

How do you know it pulled out all the fluid? It sounds like you probably are experiancing what some of us have had. I had to have a valve replaced and the PS pump replaced because it wasn't pumping enough vulume when the system was being used. HAd enough pressure until you started braking and steering.
