I picked up my 2008 2500HD LMM/Z71/LTZ yesterday afternoon and had to park it and go straight to work. Today, I drove it around town while I ran some errands. This is my first impression:

The good:

The Nav system is top notch; head and shoulders abouve the GMT800 I had in both my '05 and '06 trucks. Much more intuitive, more features and best of all, you can play a CD and use the Nav at the same time! That was a no brainer. ;) The power sliding rear window is cool. CDI factor; everyone looks at this thing.

The bad:

The ride is not what I expected. My GMT 800 trucks had less bounce. Maybe it's the tires? I think it's the same frame and suspension of old, but it is not as smooth. The fuel economy sucks! OMG. I am averaging just over 8mpg accoding to the Lie-O-meter on the DIC. And that thing is usually optimistic! I know it's new. I know it was all city driving on 96 degree temps with the AC on, but my LLY was getting 13-14 under the same conditions. I'll hold off judgement and wait until I put a few more tankfulls through it.

The Ugly:

That tailpipe. Ugh. They really could have done a better job with it. Once the aftermarket guys get on the ball, that thing is GONE! The price; my first home cost less than this truck.

On the whole, I am really happy with it. The power is there, it is so quiet, I hadda roll down the window just to make sure it wasn't a gasser! The Allison seems more civilized and the engineers really outdid themselves on the dash/interior. I haven't used the RSE yet.

More to follow...

I much rather like the look of the GM tailpipe compared to the Ford. The Ford's looks like it was an after thought IMO.

I was driving home from the dealer yesterday w/ my new LMM, so I reset the DIC while driving on the interstate. I got 19.8 MPG at 85 MPH on a 89 mile trip.

Once in the city I reset it and was getting 16.

Today the only driving I did was in a neighborhood, going back and forth from houe to house, basically 200 yards was my farthest trip. I was only getting 9MPG during this stop and go driving. But I had alot of idleing. If you go by just the DIC, you'll see a bit hit pulling off the line. Once cruising though, mine seems to be awesome in terms of MPG. I'll report back once I re-fill the tank and do a manual calc.

First time on the hwy ysterday. Reset the MPG in the DIC and got a steady 18-20 MG for the 30 or so miles I was on the highway. Same for the return trip; I feel much better. I seem to be geting roughly what I got ou of my LLY. I've noticed it takes a bit more muscle to steer this truck at low speed. The tires? Anyone else notice that?

Glad it worked out for ya. The only thing I've noticed is the turning radius isn't that great.

Something I have noticed is when the truck is in reverse, if you try and step on the gas... and then let off the gas, the truck comes almost to a complete stop. There's a definate "drag" that you feel. Of course, this may only be engine braking I'm experiencing, and I'm just not use to it being so drastic.

They probably only filled the rear end half full of oil. Check it before you drive it anymore. In fact check all the fluid levels. Whoever fills the trucks short changes the customer pocketing the cash.

The tires are all low on air as well. Probably why it steers hard. Fill the front to 55 and the back to 50.

55/50!?!? My DIC shows the rears somewhere in he 70's if I recall. I'm at work now, but I'll check tomorrow.

Heck my DIC shows my fronts are at 60, and rears at 80. I about crapped myself when I saw this, then checked the door and sure enough... that's where it said they're supposed to be. I still dropped the rear down to 60 as 80 was just to damn rough.

I've always run 60 front and 80 rear on 2500HD's. But I'm always loaded with at least 700 to 800 pounds in the bed so the ride's OK.

BTW, if you really want a thrill - Get to cruising speed on the interstate and then reset the DIC while backing off the throttle. I did this over the weekend and it jumped up to 32.5 MPG's. Slowly settled boack down into the teens but for a few minutes at least it ran at 20+. Felt like taking a picture and mailing it out to all my friends who drive a Prius.

LOL... I've had it say 99.9 once when I totally let off the gas going downhill. That would totally make them flip their wigs!

As time goes on, I'm getting happier and happier with the truck. I definately made the right decision sticking with Chevy and not going over to the dark (Ford) side. I just put LineX in the bed, put the GM steps on it and have ordered a Diamondback Truck Cover for it which should be here next week. If you haven't seen these, they are amazing. Look here: www.diamondbackcovers.com I was so impressed, I signed on as a dealer! Be sure to watch the videos!
