: efi-live verse ppe
banshee42096 08-07-2007, 01:10 PM okay guys this may have been talked about but how do they compare these are the 2 im stuck on buying but cant decide.i would love to get a tow tune with better mpg.and have a racetune that i can use at the track i have just about everything else needed so now its crunch time to decide thanks for any help.
JoshH 08-07-2007, 02:42 PM You really can't compare the two. PPE is a programmer that has several different power levels that work on trucks from stock to heavily modified. They are a very well respected company in the Dmax community, but when you get down to it it is limited in what it can do. EFI is a tool that you can use to make an endless number of programs for your truck. The nice thing about EFI is once you figure out how to use it you can make logs and fine tune your tune to get the most power available from your truck.
If you go with EFI you will need a laptop and there will be a slight learning curve that you don't have to deal with if you go with PPE. Obviously I prefer EFI live, but, either way, I don't think you can go wrong.

the labtop is not necesary BUT VERY useful in running efi live. it can be ran of a desktop pc..... i know a couple that are doing it. a labtop is highly recommended if you plan on getting serious with efi live;)
LarryJewell 08-07-2007, 03:16 PM Efi will cost you less than the big PPE and you can have up to 5 switchable tunes with EFI, from stock to race.
The big PPE is nice, I like EFI better....:D

And you can tune another engine and more :D and not limited to the 1 tuner.

It'll be nice when they get stand alone stuff finished up though. Then it will be much easier to use with no laptop.
CADTECHTOM 08-07-2007, 03:59 PM Efi live comes with 2 licenses with means you can program two trucks. If price is an issue you can do what i did and split the cost of efi live with a buddy and program both trucks pretty cheap.
if your not interested in learning how to use efi live to tune your truck, there are plenty of good tunes in the library and lots of people willing to help. Also some vendors give you a tune when you buy it. McRat gives you a race tune and Socaldiesel gives you a tow tune.
i love my efi live and would never change, but the ppe is a good tuner and you can carry it anywhere, where i have to always have my lap top.
HB LBZ 08-08-2007, 07:32 PM Does anyone think it's worth it to get efi live over ppe if you (me) are not extremely computer savvy and basically want to get some good tunes and then not really have to mess with it again? (Once every few months would be ok, but no real interest in anything more than that.) I have the ppe econ tune right now but my question is regarding eventually going big w/ ppe or switching to efi.
Thanks

Call McRat - he sells both EFILive and PPE and can determine which product best suits your needs.

LarryJewell 08-09-2007, 06:33 AM where did my post go on comparisons?
HB LBZ 08-09-2007, 12:01 PM Thanks Cindy
lily b gone 08-29-2007, 12:17 AM There's nothing wrong with the PPE tunes if you don't want to play with the EFI. I've run the hot+2 et since day one and my truck loves it. Now running a new hot+2 with dual fuel tune. 11.9 @ 113mph. Hard to complain!
HB LBZ 08-29-2007, 01:36 PM Dammmmmn!! Yeah, I'd be pretty stoked with those numbers too!

HB LBZ 08-30-2007, 01:13 AM Tyreboyz,
Quick question off topic; what's your take on a 4" or 5" exhaust? I noticed you've had both, were they turbo back? How different were the EGT's? Maybe it's not a fair comp. because it looks like one set was duals but i was just curious if I shoulda gone with a 5".
