I'm coming up on the end of the 36000 mile warranty. What should I have checked before it is gone?


I am taking the truck in for 27pt checkup and I'm not sure yet what that covers but are there specific things to check? Bearings? Steering linkage (seems a little sloppy when pulling into parking spots etc)


I know the engine gets 100K but should I do balance rate check etc?

Rockin - It really depends on how much you trust your dealer....Most will do a safety inspection and let you know what is wrong with the truck.....Then again, some will only look for blatant/obvious issues and say piss on the rest. I would pull the wheels off yourself, check for any seals that are leaking, bearing play, etc. Also, crawl underneath the truck and check for loose tie rod ends, check ball joints, u-joints, stuff like that.....You know your truck better than they do since you drive it every day....Make a list of your concerns, and go through it with the service writer when you take it in to the dealer.....If the service writer won't write up an operation for one of your concerns, make sure you speak to the service manager to find out why....

I just had my steering shaft replaced. I had a clunk in the steering like you said. The shafts are on back order for 1/2 tons but mind came in in a weak for my HD. The differance is night and day in the steering wheel.

Sure enough, intermediate steering shaft clunk. Lubed up and it is now
quiet. They said up to 70,000 miles, if it happened again, they
would replace under warranty. I'm wondering if I should 'make' it
happen before 36000.

go down the tsb list (167 of them) and find AKK the problems, make a list and drop it off.
