: H2 Alloys or H2 Chrome
AndrewFessler 11-05-2004, 10:01 AM I am getting ready to get a set of H2 wheels and tires for my truck. Before I do this, I am curious as to what most of you who have done this upgrade, are using. Chrome or Alloys.
Comments and photos of each would be appreciated.
I've negotiated a pretty good price with the local H2 dealer, cheapest in the state.
Max Power 11-05-2004, 10:07 AM I personally like the looks of the chromed H2s a lot better. But that's just me.
problemchild 11-05-2004, 10:22 AM if its over 400 with new wheels and tires its too much.
AndrewFessler 11-05-2004, 10:47 AM The higest I have found here for a complete set is $800.
The lowest, is for alloys at $500. (although I'll negotiate them down a bit more)
Otherwise, I have to pay at least $140 for shipping from an online vendor. :(
redneck45 11-05-2004, 11:31 AM Where at in Ohio can you get wheels and tires for $500?, maybe worth the drive down, can't find any around Detroit.
AndrewFessler 11-05-2004, 11:32 AM Heh! After I get mine, then I'll say :)
baimpala 11-05-2004, 12:08 PM Prices are VERY dependent on location. I'm sure in California,
they are more plentiful than they are here in Newport, RI. Try
finding a set, PERIOD, here, that isn't HUNDREDS of miles away.

95geo 11-05-2004, 02:05 PM i've got chrome ones and its starting to peel and flake in some of the corners...... its pita to make em shine after every rain
they are 3 months old, im putting the stockers back on for the winter
AndrewFessler 11-05-2004, 05:29 PM Well I went and picked up my set of take offs.
Got 4 new H2 with tires, alloys.
Plus one new tire, without rim. (it had a puncture on the tire when they unloaded that particular hummer from the transport, so they put a new tire on instead)
Paid $400 tax and all. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif
I am happy. Was cheaper than ebay, and was cheaper than buying 2 new tires for my truck, odd that only two tires wore out. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
redneck45 11-05-2004, 06:42 PM Ok, Fessler, Hook me up!
TheBac 11-06-2004, 04:42 PM Congrats, AF! Thats a hell of a good price. Wish you woulda said something 3 weeks ago! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

Dmax Tim 11-07-2004, 09:27 AM Columbus or Cinnci?
AndrewFessler 11-07-2004, 10:22 AM So I spent a few hours putting my newly acquied H2s on the truck. I followed the information given from a few othere posts here, with my own twist. I did move the bumper forward about 1". Was easy, only 6 bolts hold the 30-40lb bumper on. (Don't expect it to survice any kind of impact. Its amazing it even holds being stepped on.
My drivers side inside still rubs, even with 3-4 cranks on the torsion bars :( Could be because something got a little shifted from my accident on that side in January.

Location purchased was Dayton Ohio. The dealer is not expecting more for a month or so. So I'd not call him right away, he seemed to want to raise the price based on demand.Edited by: andrewfessler
mpete05lly 11-15-2004, 08:24 PM ? for all of you guys with H-2 wheels. I have a chance to get
some H2 wheels without tires. What is the narrowist tire that you
can put on the wheel? i was looking at 275r17. Thanks Markhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif
baimpala 11-15-2004, 08:48 PM 275r17 will fit fine. I have 285-70. Less than half an inch wider than what you want. . .
Dennis
I had chrome ones... They went to crap in less than a year.
Swanny 11-16-2004, 08:33 AM baimpala:
Did you have to do any mods (torsion bars, cutting, etc) with the 285-70's ? Got any pics?
mpete05lly 11-16-2004, 10:12 AM These are alloys. think I will go with the 275's. What do you think is a good price for these. They are local and about the only ones even close. He is wanting 200 a piece. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
Thanks for your help
Mark
AndrewFessler 11-16-2004, 10:17 AM Did you call around to hummer dealers and see if they have any H2 takeoffs available? Its what I did. Found complete set, including new tires - in price ranging from 400-800

$200 a piece for the wheels or tires? If it is for the wheels, they are way overpriced. I just paid $175 total for 4 new H2 wheels. If it is for the tires, they too are overpriced. Check out places like tirerack.com and discounttire.com. I haven't found a 275 that is load rated high enough for my truck. I'm going with 285/70/17 BFG TA KO's.

Bars are at stock height. Raising the bars would just make the
tires hit the lower fascia more since where it hit was below the center
of the tire.
I trimmed the inside of the front fascia on both sides just enough to
make it the same width all the way down instead of getting wider like
it came. I don't have a picture of that, sorry. I also
trimmed about an inch and three-quarter off the wheel well liner on the
driver's side only in the front on the left. No pics of this
either. Nothing else rubs or hits.
The pics aren't the best, but I haven't had the truck pose for pictures or anything. . .

Prophet 11-16-2004, 11:12 PM Just to clairfy for me...
The H2 alloys are cast or forged wheels?
Do they just chrome the standard H2 Alloys, or are the wheels different from the start?
-P.
Dmax Tim 11-17-2004, 05:44 AM Cast wheels and they just smooth and chrome them.
Also note that the 03 and up Chevy didn't need as much trimming as the 03 and up GMC.
I've had 2 of each.
Instead of trimming the front left inner fender, I drill 2 1/4" holes and put a large cable tie to pull it forward.
I also had to pull the E brake cable back to the cab mount so it wouldn't cause the inner fender to rub.
towin43 11-17-2004, 10:04 AM Sorry for the hijack, but is anyone running H2's w/285's that have the factory molded mud flaps? The flaps protrude out into the front wheel well and I'm concerned they will rub once I put the H2's w/285's on.
Lloyd-TX 11-17-2004, 11:41 AM I paid $140.00 plus tax for a set of four OEM H2 takeoffs here in Houston.
LT275/70R17 Goodyear Warngler ATS tires.

Dmax Tim 11-17-2004, 01:33 PM No problem w/ the flaps (these are Husky)

TheBac 11-17-2004, 10:19 PM Moving the bumper on an '02 is REALLY fun, because its not straight across like the newer trucks! It has to be moved up and out as best you can.
You shouldn't have to trim anything if you tie back the parking brake and the front wheel well on the drivers side.

Tom
Dmax Tim 11-19-2004, 06:30 AM Bac, 03 & up Chevy and GMC got tighter airdam clearance than the older trucks, also the windshield washer tank cause some trimming (tie straps) on the left front inner.
TheBac 11-19-2004, 06:41 AM Tim,
Yep...I had to tie back that area around the washer tank too. All I meant on the bumper is on the '03+ Chevys the bumper/fender area is straight...you'd only have to move it OUT. It's not that easy on an 01-02.
I didn't have to trim anything..just tie back. No scraping, no rubbing.
