Hey guys I went to plug my truck in and couldn't find the block heater
cord. I looked pretty good last night but it was dark. Two
Questions is the block heater standard equipment or is it an option
that I may not have gotten. I just figured it was standard
equipment. Where would I find it if I did have one?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
If there is not one on my truck should I get one installed from the
dealer or should I buy one that just mounts to the side of the block
I'm thinking dealer. Any advice would be appreciatedhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Well, Booneman,I'm not for sure on the newer models but if you have a block heater it should be on the passenger side. The plug will be visible coming out next to the radiator. It could be tucked away behind the bumber. You must live in NoCal if your searching for a heater. Good luck.

I've heard two different things. One is that the block heater was
optional on the 04.5s, and the other one is that the block heater is
standard, but the block heater cord is optional. Check on your sticker
- it will say if it has the block heater (with cord) on it or not. I
forget where the block heater is located on my truck - I believe on the
driver's side. I'll check in the morning since it's dark out now.
Yes it's on thepassenger side along side the intecooler/radiator.
If you don't have it it's only $10 for the cord. All Cummins have the
heatig element already there. if you don't have the option you only
have to buy the cord.

the usa models starting from 04, the engine block heater power cord was optional, while the heater was installed in all the engines. on canadian models, i believe that the cord was standard equipment for 04, but i am not sure about the 04.5's
my 04 had the cord and it was not an avalable option...

The truck is already set-up for the cord. It is on the passenger side of the truck, just above the turbo, the oil line to the turbo passes right in front of it. There will be a plastic cap on it that screws off. The cord will be of a gasket material and will screw right in. The fun part is running the plug to the spot you want it to come out on!! I went ahead and bought the Cold weather package as I will have a lot of idle time over the cold months...this way I stay warm when I take a break. I put the whole package on in just over 40 minutes.
