For those who have the Helm Service Manual. In volume 3 page 6-3969, it shows secondary diesel fuel tank and electric lift pump for diesels. On page 6-3981 fuel pump connector for dual tanks.
This is in the Engine Controls -6.6L(LLY) section.
GM techs, can the parts to add oem secondary fuel tank, fuel pump and assorted hardware be purchased thru GM?
I know GMDIESELTECH.com has dual alternator kit maybe put together dual tank kit
Please thrash me if this is old news.

This is available in the cab and chassis models. I doubt it would work with a box. Exhaust would be in the way I think. Perhaps other issues as well. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

Cab/chassis only. Way too much exhaust in the way, unless you have stacks, then you could probably make it work. Why not go with a Supertank or Transfer flow? Just curious.

You can dump the exhast in front of the rear axe no need for stacks.
But you will lose you spare tire though.
I did post a pictue aon the 2nd tank in my truck a few months back.

I did the same research in the Helms manual for '02 for using the OEM aux tank circuit to activate a pump to move fuel from my bed mounted aux tank to the OEM tank. Most of the wiring is there and you can fairly easily add the missing conductors (2 if I remember right), however the chassis cab setup uses a signal from both fuel sending units to activate the pump to keep both tanks equal. The ECM in my '02 did not support this. I hooked up the second sending unit, added the additional conductors in the underhood fusebox and it did not work. I tried several configurations and the ECM would not recognize the second sending unit. So, I changed plans and plumbed it as a true aux tank with a selector switch. Also, I checked into mounting a chassis cab tank in place of my spare, but found the chassis cab frame to be different making such a mount more than a simple bolt-in affair. Then, there was the problem about if I did mount the aft axle tank, where would it fill from? There is no great way to route a fill tube to the rear box panel - resticted space between the box and frame and difficulty establishing a good slope to the fill tube to allow for fast filling of the aft axle tank. I'm sure there would be a way to do it if time, $, and the willingness to cut holes in strange places in the truck were not obstacles.
Good luck,
Don

What a differance, When you can drive 1200mi or 2000km to the next fillup, I now carry 76us gal total or 300 liters of diesel, 26us gals down below and 50us gal in bed, my trips are NOT based on, where is the next diesel station????
