One of my friends that works for a chevy dealer, was telling me that the 07' HDs will have a CAT engine, and a 7 speed allison that is really a 6 with overdrive being 7th gear. Supposubly CAT is designing a special motor to fit our trucks. Hopefully its true.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

GM is unlikely to change engine manufacturers when the Duramax is
selling as fast as they can build them.

And selling faster then they can keep up on injector replacements I might add ... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif

The Duramax is a fantastic engine............Bosch is the maker of the fuel delivery system............so blame the injectors not the motor........

I for one would be willing to go for a set of injectors every 100K miles.........I figure if they last that long for me that will be 5-6 years of trouble free driving.........change them and I got a decade out of this truck..........

I always look at the bright side..........

I think when something works as good as the Duramax that they will not jump to change it. They are selling faster than they can drop them on the ground and I was told there are waiting lists for some locations to get trucks. That should say something. Unless they have some kind of major trick up their sleeves, they will not change it.

It's easy to create a waiting list if you control production. Ford sells twice as many and has for years.

Dmax was supposed to expand the engine plant as sales rose. It never rose that high to warrant it.

I'm not being negative about it, just bringing the facts out.

Personally, I don't see the big advantage to the CAT engine...Yep, they
are dandy for off road equipment....not bad in heavy truck
applications....but they have a major issue....weight....Don't get me
wrong, they have been around a long time, and they are a good engine,
but I think if you see a cat engine in a chevy truck, it will have a
straight axle in front....To my knowledge, cat has never used aluminum
heads on any of their motors.......I guess time will tell....

They might be looking into Cat for an engine but I believe it would go in the Kodiak or a medium duty truck.

And why put a 7 speed tranny on a light duty truck that is only really suppose to pull light duty loads. The Allison does just fine in stock form for pulling 20,000 lbs up a hill compared to the compatition and with a little inhancments it can handle alot more so why spend money to reinvent the wheel.

Rumor has it that there's a six cylinder Duramax coming out soon (for Trailblazer and other mid-sized trucks) so volumes will certainly increase. Packaging the current Duramax/Allision combination is very difficult.

Cat engine would be nice, but would probably make the diesel an expensive option ($10,000+?)

I asked that question about a year ago to someone that would know -- he said that there were not currently any plans to do so. The Duramax Van was the only planned vehicle.

The H1 Hummer is also getting the Duramax -- sure wish they'd offer it in the H2...

Maybe......an optional diesel engine? Add to truck versatility. Get some of the guys who buy Fhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley35.gifds or Dodges because of injector reputation to buy a GM product?

Seven speed Allison...... Would they make the lower end of gears
LOWER, or increase the HIGHER end of gears for better fuel
milage.....? Or both.

What is fact and what is drug induced?

partsguy662 you're right on. The cat is so over built that the weight would require the straight axle(not a bad thing). Cat is the best but the cost of the engine would be too high. Besides, the rest of the truck would be total junk and the cat would have 20000 more hours to gohttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

SmileyIcon('') I guess I'm the only one to get it.

I really fail to see any believability in this story. Eric was right on, but
more like crack. Why would GM who is cutting costs just about any
where they can get away with it go with a different engine? They
basically buy the D-max from themselves, why would they stop
paying themselves and stat paying Cat? Unless they bought Cat and I
missed. Even then, this is the first real kick ass diesel they've had,
why would they just drop it? My last question is Why? Why, at this
time would you want anything else?

this is from http://www.gminsidenews.com/futureguide1.htm

Silverado Line- 2005 is a carryover year for the Silverado. In 2006, there is a good chance that GM will offer a nearly 400HP version of the 6.0L LS2 in a standard cab, shortbed Silverado SS. After that, the aging Silverado line will get a redesign in 2007 (GMT-900). Expect the usual increases in chassis strength, towing ability, and interior quality. Expect Chevy's current scowling look to look more "big rig" a.k.a Dodge Ram An optional 7.5L V10 powertrain will be added

only thing I see these bone heads talking about is adding a V10, I guess 8.1 pistion slap really is a problem. Glad I sold mine.

Did a little more research, looks like gm is going to market diesel auto's world wide especially in Europe, <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Russia and china where the restrictions are not as bad. Some new models also coming to US. Only problems is they don't have the capacity to make that many diesel engines with hp from 100 to 400. Not sure about the CAT rumor but it would make since that GM would try and ink a partnership with the biggest international diesel mfg like CAT before ford beat them to it.

My brother-in-law was in Reno(Hot August Nights time) and he was talking to a man who worked at GM. He works for their alternative fuel program and he said you will see the 2007 trucks all new from ground up. Expect big changes and improvements.

He said GM is also bringing back the Camaro in 2007. It will be called the SS. He wouldn't go into any other detail on the items.

I heard that diesels were gonna be done away with. Because of emissions. Fhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley35.gifd was to replace the Power Stroke with a V10. Heard from an auto parts manufacturer that supplied Fhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley35.gifd.

Not sure if there is any truth to all this.

What is fact? What is fiction?

I've heard and read just the opposite. Manufacturers are gearing up to provide more diesel engines. DCX is offering a diesel Jeep Liberty this fall... Ford is rumored to be planning to offer a V-6 diesel (not sourced from Navistar though) in the F-150 in 2007 or 2008... Toyota is rumored to be planning to offer a Hino (their commercial truck subsidiary) sourced diesel in the HD Tundra around 2007 or 2008. VW is expanding their diesel offerings here (Passat is now available with a 4cyl TDI and the Touareg is available with a V-10 TDI). Mercedes just reintroduced diesels in the US with a diesel E-class.

Diesels the way we know them will be gone, replaced with "clean diesels" when the new diesel emission standards take effect.

baimpala

I find it very hard to believe that in only two years, they will do
away with diesels because of emissions. The LLY already meets '07
emissions standards, so how could they just do away with them.
Two years is not a long time to make drastic changes to the way we
think about diesel.

I am with EricM and baimpala, diesel is here to stay...

Many engineers/manufacturers are working on the platform. Bound to see great improvements in near future. The GM/Isuzu DuraMax LLY is just a toddler with a lot of growing up yet to do.

Certainly not trying to be a shttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley35.gift disturber. Maintenance foreman in the auto parts plant told me durring an interview about Fhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley35.gifd replacing the PSD with a V10. And about other diesels. Kinda thought he might know.....

Because I have a diesel, it would be my luck that they are being cut out.
