: My Tires are shot at 21 k!!!!
tentspike 08-02-2007, 10:29 PM I just had my truck checked for steering issues by a mechanic friend and he told me that my tires will not pass inspection in Dec. I only have 21k on them with regular rotations. I sometimes pull my 8,800 lb rv trailer around 7 times a year with a weight dist. and anti sway setup. the tires have an E rating. How can this be. Will I be able to get any money towards another set from the manufacturer of the tires?? I can't believe it.

duramaxin14 08-02-2007, 10:30 PM What kinda tire are they?
NCexRider 08-02-2007, 10:33 PM I got 19k out of my stock Duravis tires, and that was rotating them every 6k. I tow a ~5000lb trailer frequently. I'm talking the tread was completely gone to the point that one of my rears blew out. I drive easy, no burnouts whatsoever.
tentspike 08-02-2007, 10:37 PM Mine are Bridgestone V-Steel RIB's
Smokin06 08-03-2007, 12:11 AM I still have just under 1/2 of my tread left @ 23k miles. That is with towing everyday and my fair share of cleaning the roads. I will most likely get a new set before winter though. I could probably squeeze em till spring but these tires sucked in snow when they were new. It is odd how these tires range in wear factor.
duramaxin14 08-03-2007, 12:30 AM Probley the tire that is going to give u the best bang for your buck would be a bfg all terrain i hate to say it but i must attempt it. The reason we don't run bfg here is because we are more into looks mud terrain but the all terrain to fair well.
emerson 08-03-2007, 12:38 AM Pressure when not towing front/rear?
banshee42096 08-03-2007, 08:02 AM i cant speekmuch for stockers but my goodyears have over 50000miles on them wearing perfect and i will probaly get new tires just before winter still have tread left.good luck
tentspike 08-03-2007, 10:57 AM I just ordered 4 tires from Tire Rack at a great price. I still was not ready for new tires as far as the wallet is concerned.
WildChild 08-03-2007, 11:21 AM I never got more than 25k out of a set of BFG AT's.... but I have had more than 40K on three sets of BFG MT's
fast03 08-03-2007, 11:43 AM I know guys getting 60-80 k on stockers, although they are easy on the throttle. Is there a kid in the house speeding the wear along?
BigBadAllis 08-03-2007, 01:07 PM I have 27K on my stock tires. The way they look, I will get at least 60-65K out of them. My 96 HD 4x4 Dodge got 80K on the origional set. No burnouts, always check inflation and rotate every 6K miles. About 20% trailer pulling too.
Pastorj 08-03-2007, 01:30 PM I have 38k and will be replacing my stock Goodyear ATS tires very shortly.
tentspike 08-03-2007, 03:52 PM I guess I could keep a better watch on inflation lbs. I usually kept them 10lbs under max pressure. I never really filled the front and back differenty when in a tow situation. I guess I will have to be more carefull when towing a load and adjust pressures accordingly. I also need an alignment I was told.
BlowinSmoke06 08-09-2007, 08:35 PM Ahh 12,000 mile back ones are shot and fronts look like new lol i guess it time for a rotate or just buy new ones. It's kinda with all that power to not powerlock it beside a rice burner and give'em a little smoke lol
moore87 08-09-2007, 08:50 PM It matters how you drive, where you drive, what you pull etc.
Mine were gone at 17,000. But I drive 100% in town and on gravel roads. They had big chunks of gravel missing and basically no tread.
BMGhauler 08-09-2007, 11:45 PM Those Duravis tires are chitty. Chunks come out of the tread! Funny thing is, I hit a curb with one of mine and blew it out. Ordered a new one from Sam's Club but the one they sent has sidewall protection (extra ribs on the outside for protection). Anyway, the compound must be totally different as there are no chunks coming out of this one even with some burnouts. IMO there is something definately wrong with the oem Duravis tires. And to think I asked for them when I ordered the truck because I wanted "off road" tires.
trouttrooper 08-10-2007, 12:30 AM I've never had luck with factory original tires. I got 15,000 on my current truck before the tread came apart (what was left of it). There was no abuse either. My work truck got all of 10,000 miles before they were down to the wear bars.

If that's your truck in your avatar it makes sense that your tires won't last as long as some others, but 10,000 miles seems too short even for the usage in your avatar. Tire inflation will be a big part of the life expectancy.

Yup, that's my truck but it's on new tires in that pic. Those tires (les schwab) have 15,000ish on them now and still have a ton of tread on. The originals never saw very many loads and were toast at 15,000. I run 55psi front and 50psi rear when empty. 65psi front and 75psi rear when loaded. My patrol truck is virtually all empty highway miles. That's the set that went after 10,000.
Duromax04 08-10-2007, 07:28 PM IF you are running empty with 70 psi in the rear tires, then you were way overinflated and only the center of the tire was actually doing the work. That will acclerate greatly the wear of the tires. I run 35 to 40 psi in the rears of mine with empty. There isn't much weight back there when they are empty. I run 50 in the front all the time because of engine weight. I have weighed my truck with and without a trailer and the front doesn't vary much.
When you tow, naturally you need to air them up. Only check and adjust air pressure when the tires are cold. In the morning before you leave. driving 1 mile can affect the tire, by building a little heat.
That will get you the most out of tires.
Narcah 08-10-2007, 10:17 PM My OEM Michellin's only got 25kish, and they were to the point wherever I went people were telling me "Isn't it time for new tires?" Hay guys, random people on the street. Hey, it's not really my fault they looked like DOT Drags. ;)
BigBadAllis 08-11-2007, 03:04 PM My stock Bridgestones have almost 28K and still looking good.
