Will a van engine like the one shown here fit in my '95 Burb?

From what I've heard about the van's is that the turbo won't fit under the hood. Can't remember where I read that at, because you're not the first to look into it. The turbo sits right in the V of the engine. From what I also hear, it's the better set up too because it doesn't seem to have the same issues with the two clyinders that like to get cooked in the truck setup. Truth or tale, not for sure, but questions that would be good to find some hard answers to.

Edit: one thing I noticed in that picture of that engine is, does it have the cooling upgrades with dual stats? I'd have to compare to mine, but it's been so long I can't remember because I think mine is different. Of course, in a van, you can't see anything anyway.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gifEdited by: knkreb

Might clear the hood with a nice cowl style hood scoop installed to. That might be something to ponder to.

looks to me that clearing the hood wouldn't be the problem, it would be the the turbo hitting the firewall. it looks as though the turbo sticks out 6 inches or so further back than the flywheel.

Sure does look like a much better setup than the side turbo. I think GM was really heading in the right direction with this one. A few more years of R&D with this setup, and they would have had a great little light duty diesel.

knkreb,

If you look at the picture of the front of the engine, it looks like the updated coolant system to me. My coolant cross over on my '95 Burb doesn't look anything like the pipe in the picture.

You could make it fit with sheet metal changes.

Where that engine will fit is the H1. sepcifically one with a 6.2 in it.

It looks like the exhaust leading to the turbo will hit the firewall.

I have a three inch body lift which gives me more clearance than stock and there's no way the rear turbo setup would fit on my truck without firewall modification. The whole reason for the rear turbo's setup's existance is that the van and the H1 have relatively long narrow engine bay's where the truck's have wide short engine bay's. It couldn't be too hard to convert considering I've seen a blown 454 in an mini cooper. Have fun.
