Whenever I turn all the way to the left (not the right) there is this popping sound. The wheel has to be turned completely against the lock to get it to happen. Does anyone know whats causing this? I have about 74k on my truck

I'm not sure! It sounds like the same thing that my dads 03 1/2ton avalanch is doing. He has had it to the steeler twice and they're never able to find anything wrong.

Front crossmember. Does it sound like a "snap"? If so, you need to loosen the 4 bolts holding in the crossmember and retorque them

Dealer just fixed my wife's 06 suburban yesterday. Shimmed the body mounts. Her's did it on any type of turns. Fixed for now.

The sound sounds like the CV joint is snapping. What would shimming the body mounts do or loosening the cross member. What is causing the sound? It groans like an old man too.

I was thinking maybe CV's myself but could also be something else in the front suspension.

c/v axle, ball joint, tie rod, body mount, cross member????? You may want to check with GM for TSB's for your concern.

Probably the steering shaft. Dealer just replaced mine this past weekend. Says they have been trouble with them. He showed me the slack that mine had and it was alot and making noise.

Mine made a wierd noise when turning too. I had the steering shaft replaced and it stopped for a while. Its back again now. I think there is a service bulletin on it. There is an aftermarket shaft available,Im not sure of the company.

That sounds like a lot of wasted money and effort. I had this once and it was my ball joints, or it could be your cv shaft popping in and out of socket? I would try those two to start before rebuilding your entire front end!

Crossmember?, interesting. I just had mine at the dealer this morning for a "snapping" sound in the driveline. They said they "couldn't duplicate it", so I took the service advisor for a spin when I picked it up and he figured it was a u-joint with some slop.
Its very weird, it happens whenever the driveline "loads" or "unloads". It sound like the snap of a static electricity shock.
Member "KGT" was saying he's replaced a few of the aluminum driveshafts because of "ticks"
Any idea what the torque specs are?
