What seems to be the best setting for the hypertech for good performance and fuel mileage. Also while programming the hypertech asks if I have traction assistance. This is a 3/4 pickup, can I assume that it does have traction assistance and would does it really matter on if I answer this question yes or no on the programmer. How can I tell if my truck does have traction assistance. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you looked at the sticker from the truck? Or did you buy it used?? I would imagine if you bought new it would listed as either a standard item or option.. Just a thought...As for the hypertech I have no info but someone will probably be able to answer.. Good luck ...

Being a diesel, 4X4 is the only traction assistance we get.
I'm sure it GM generic codes, the SS Silverado has AWD or the SUVs.

Set the Hypertech to level 3 and enjoy. This level is still safe for your tranny-as Hypertech WILL NOT eclipse the safe holding capacities of the stock Allison. This level gives you +160 rwtq. I don't know which would be best for mileage, as I've never used any level lower than 3. If you drive it normally, you should gain 1-1.5mpg on any level. As of last year, I believe traction assistance was only available as an option on 1/2 ton models.

Scotty, I'm not sure I agree with you here as I also have the Hypertech III, the truck is completely stock except for the programmer. In level 3 it slips the tran considerably while in the tow/haul mode going through the different gears (I have not tested this while pulling), with that said...I would not think it would be good for the tran in the normal mode at level 3 as well, as it seems to slip some when launching off the line. Or do you all think it's just messing with the tachometer and it's not reading correctly?

The way i understand it, allison tranny torque convertor does not lock in 1st gear whether in tow haul or not and will show slippage. Plus ecm does not allow full torque until 2nd gear.

The Hypertech on level 3 SHOULD NOT be slipping your Allison.
Hypertech never got near stressing my tranny. Same can't be said of the later Predator, though.

I have about 1,500 miles on my Hypertech, of which I have played around some with Level 2 and 3. Level 3 has enough oomph to give me a good 2nd gear wheel spin (w/posi), and does not seem to hurt mileage.
Since I can be a little paranoid, I keep it at level 2 just to give me some room for error. Level 2 still offers a good performance gain over stock, and will hopfully not show any signs of premature wear & tear after 100,000+ miles...
