I was reading in the forum and found a post talking about how some members can do a background check on your used truck. This information would greatly be appreciated. This is why, 2 weeks ago I bought a 02 Chevy Duramax, 4x4, reg cab, 2500, Allison tranny, had 62000 miles. I needed a towing/work truck. When I bought it I had a mechanic check it out and give me the O.K.. Ran great but now I hear a chirping noise with some vibration and my mechanic says my u joint needs to be replaced. Now I am nervous and wonder what abuse this thing has been through. My vin number for the truck is 1GCHK241X2E109809. You can PM, Post, or e-mail.
Thanks

Make sure to get the u-joints replace asap because they will cause a vibration that will vibrate the transfer case enough to crack the rear trans housing. And that is an expensive repair.
There is no warranty history for the truck. The tailgate campaign is still open.

Not super unusual for u-joints to go bad over 50,000 miles. It's not
the norm but sometimes they go in that time frame without major abuse.

Update got the u-joints fixed. They were no good. My Chevy dealer wanted around $200 but the local mechanic was 125 to do both. He said that the u-joints are sealed and not greasable and that he put in aftermarket u-joints with grease zirks.
