: Did I limp the tranny??
I was on the onramp to the freeway yesterday. Some Semis were approaching so I floored it till about 75MPH then let off. It did a 5-4 downshift when I floored it and then shifted to 5th when I let off the gas.
This was with the J/A combo on level 4. Defueled 4-5 shift. Full Smoke.
The truck wouldn't rev past 2K RPM after I let off the gas and would severely retard timing if I tried to force it some throttle. Then it would slow down progressively slower.
I pulled off the Highway and turned the truck off for about 2 mins. and then restarted. Now it reved to redline and I had full power back.
No SES light or other indicators lit during or after the whole process.
So..did I limp it or is something else going wrong.
Thanks.
wyndzer 11-03-2004, 07:15 PM Had this happen too. I'm pretty sure that we experienced "limp mode" What can be done to prevent this ??
ChrisF 11-03-2004, 07:47 PM Less Power or a lighter Foot is the only way to prevent it on a Stock Tranny..http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif Or like I hope to do soon Call Suncoasthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
Max Payne 11-03-2004, 08:00 PM I would be willing to bet you did not limp it. Seeng that you have an LLY, I bet that you set a P1093 code. It is a common problem with LLY/Edge combos. It seems to happen most often when you suddenly let off after a hard accel. I have seen it twice on two different trucks, and it has not happened on either of them since I reflashed them. You should get it read to see. The limp mode will set a P0700.
Mackin 11-03-2004, 08:33 PM I'm with Max on the No Limp. If you go into safe mode you will throw a SES.
What's a P1093?
Mac
dmaxalliTech 11-03-2004, 08:48 PM Mac, 1093 is a 'large fuel leak detected' code. Basically means that the actual fuel pressure is below what it is commanding. If it happens, it will limit the engine. A limped trans will NOT cause the rpms to be limited like what was described, but a problem on the engine side will. Trans is fine......for now
Mackin 11-03-2004, 09:14 PM Interesting stuff. Thanks
Max Power 11-03-2004, 09:38 PM Eric, any idea why we are seeing this?
Max..Reflash the Truck ECU at the dealer or have Edge reflash their module?
Thanks for the info.
Mike L. 11-03-2004, 10:57 PM I am starting to get a bunch of phone calls about LLY Allys acting up with programmers ( TTS excluded). So far I have solved everyone of them with disconnecting program. I feel most of these programs have come out too soon. In my experience I have found only one person that can control the LLY turbo. Diesel Tech. ( TTS Powersystems) This system is flawless on the LLY.

Kennedy 11-04-2004, 10:07 AM How many miles on the fuel filter?
Max Payne 11-04-2004, 10:21 AM The trucks I have seen this happen on were both 2005's under 1000 miles. I was able to go in and command FRP to 160 mpa on both, it is just a glitch that needs to be addressed by the chip companies. I don't know if it has fixed it, as it hasn't been long enough to tell, but the newest LLY reflash has kept these two trucks out of my stall.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif
Kennedy....only 4300 miles on the truck so far.
Gotlift 11-04-2004, 09:18 PM I had something simular happen on my 01. SES light would come on engine would not rev past 2000 RPM's and the more you pushed the accelarator the worse it got. Replaced fuel filter no help. could get out and prime the fuel filter and problem would be fixed for alittle while. Mine mostly came on crusing at 60 to 65 mph and slowly rolling on the throttle to gain a little speed. Turned out the dealer replaced both head gaskets and fuel pump.

what flash did you do on these trucks?
torquet 11-04-2004, 10:36 PM My truck did this yesterday after a hard acceleration and then letting off of it (95hp setting). I stopped and let it set and nothiong changed then I started 3 times and nothing changed so I just took back off. I drove it about 40-50 miles and stopped to get fuel, got out the Bullydog Powerpup and checked for codes and nothing came up. So I installed the 50hp setting then took off and everything was alright after that. also it wouldn't go over 2,000 rpms in park either.
I thought I limped the tranny until that happened

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.<A name=ss1-1557897><A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1557897#ss1-1557897" target="_blank">
<H5>Condition/Concern:</A></H5>
Customer concern may be a low speed surge (8 to 10 mph or near 1000 RPM), acceleration fuel knock noise at 1700 to 1800 RPM, rough idle, white smoke at idle, or high positive injector balance rates.<A name=ss2-1557897><A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1557897#ss2-1557897" target="_blank">
<H5>Recommendation/Instructions:</A></H5>
<LI =1>High positive injector balance rates (over +4.0 in park or +6.0 in drive) may be causing white smoke at idle or while driving.
<LI =1>Document all injector cylinder balance rates at the beginning of the diagnosis.
<LI =1>There is an updated calibration to address the white smoke, high positive balance rates, idle surge, and a fuel knock noise at or near 1700 to 1800 RPM.
<LI =1>Install the updated calibration and evaluate the smoking, high injector balance rates, idle surge, and fuel knock noises.
<LI =1>If there is still a mechanical concern with an injector, and balance rates are still over the SI specification of +4.0 in park or +6.0 in drive, replace only the effected injector. </LI>
NOTE: Before any injector replacements, a large fuel sample should be taken from the fuel filter and checked for contaminants or poor quality.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.<A name=ss3-1557897><A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1557897#ss3-1557897" target="_blank">

This is the reflash I was referring to.Edited by: Max Payne
Called Edge about this today. They said this is due to having a free flowing aftermarket exhaust on the truck and the EGR valve not monitoring correct Flow and so it puts the Truck ECU into a failsafe mode and reduces the power. The tech said that almost all of the LLY's out there with the Edge/*** and Free-flowing aftermarket exhausts are having this problem. The fix is to install an EGR blockoff plate or put the stock exhaust back on for propper EGR operation. There is nothing Edge can do in their SW to effect the EGR operation.
This is all what "Justin" the tech told me. Thoughts?? I have an EGR blockoff plate I could install to try. I'm going to start there.
There were no codes set on my ECU.
Torquet...Mine wouldn't rev past 2k RPM in Park either.
