Like so many others I got a Low fuel pressure code while pulling a 5,000 trailer. I replaced the fuel filter which had 6,000 miles on it. At 400 miles it popped again, this time pulling a 6,000 lb trailer, went into limp. I can also make it limp with just heavy throttle, not even WOT. So, it wasn’t the fuel filter, but it’s under warrantee, to the dealer. Here the entertainment starts:
Dealer: Can’t find anything wrong, maybe it’s your fuel filter.
Me: It only has 400 miles on it, and where I fill up is a fleet yard that gets fresh fuel every other day.
Dealer: Your filter is not a GM filter. You really need to use GM parts on these diesels.
Me: So, is there a pressure sensor there that might be bad.
Dealer: No there’s nothing there, but let me check one more thing. We’ll call you back.
They did call back and said they couldn’t find a problem, suggest replacing fuel filter with a GM filter. Which is wrong, the problem is the truck limps, the cause could not be found.
If there is a code that indicates “low fuel pressure” wouldn’t you think there has got to be a pressure sensor. I’m thinking the dealer realized that, and that was the last thing he checked. The filters I use are made by WIX and sold by a vendor on site. I think they’re fine. So I’ll keep switching filters until I run out or it stops limping and then try another maker. If that doesn’t do it I’ll be taking it back to a different dealer.
