: PPE Xcellerator VS Edge Juice with Attitude
hd2500toyhauler 08-02-2007, 12:35 PM Hello - I am a 1st time poster, new Duramax owner, and a diesel newbie. So bare with me please. I have tryed to read everything I can about these devices to increase horsepower and torque. So my 1st question is why would I pay almost $900 for the Edge Juice with attitude when I can buy the PPE unit for $500 and change? Reading some of the posts in here, the PPE unit seems to have a lot more horsepower on level 4.
Question # 2 - My mechanic told me to wait on the banks system to come out that they are worth the wait and have superior engineering in his opinion. Again opinions are like a$$holes everyone has one. But I do respect everyones on this website because about all of you have more experience at this than I do.
PS Great Site.... Love it.... tons of helpful info.:D
I will be posting my upgrades and garage pictures soon...
again any opinions are greatly appreciated.:help2:
:thankyou2 - :chevy: HD2500ToyHauler
salmandmx 08-02-2007, 12:43 PM Welcome. Good question as to why Edge is so much. Guess cause they have the cool little outlook monitor. As far as PPE goes, I think and many here think they are the best. Just do a search in the perfomance section and read all the trouble that guys here are having with banks and edge ESPECIALLY banks.
http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=172482 and
http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157190 and
http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=168242.
Now see how many threads are on here with guys having trouble with PPE. I love mine and truck runs great. I usually run it in level 1 or 2 most of the time. When I put it in level 4, DAM does she run. Post some pics of your new rig!
07DMAX69 08-02-2007, 02:54 PM How often you you run it on 4, I will get my PPE on Tues. So it's o.k. to run it on normal everyday driving on 2?

Farmer Dave 08-02-2007, 03:11 PM The outlook monitor looks really cool. I run mine on level 4 for everyday driving, but I'm not hard on it. If you read this DAN, I notice you can get a Level 5 now for the LMM, can my tuner be upgraded over the computer or do I have to send it in. I know I will have to pay for the upgrade, but just wondering. I'm starting to look at getting my transmission done.
hd2500toyhauler 08-02-2007, 05:14 PM I just got off the PPE site and they do have a xccelarator with 5 levels now for like $919.00, but it does not tell you anything else about why you would want to pay $400.00 for the hot 5th level. I need a reason to spend the xtras bucks.....quit teasing:D

If you are driving like a grandma then u can pretty much run it in any level. You wont be using hardly any of that power if your foot isnt heavy on the peddle. If u run it in level 3 or 4 and keep your foot mashed down than the ole tranny is on borrowed time. As far as level 4, I run it a few times a month just to do some playing. Most of the time I am in level 1 or 2. If I am gona do alot of city driving, I'll keep it on level 1. If I am gona be on the interstate for a while I'll keep it in 2.
redneckbuckeye 08-02-2007, 05:58 PM Edge juice with attitude has built in gages to monitor the Egts and the boost, With PPE you are getting a better tuner, but you need to get and install gages.
I have read more people having problems with Edge products, and have only read about one guy that had Problems with PPE . Go with PPE and you will love the power.

Why change levels all the time, if you drive it easy on level 4 isn't that the same as level 2 and then when you want the power, it is there when you need it. ps I don't drive it like a grandma, I just find it a pain to change levels all the time.
AzRodd 08-02-2007, 10:53 PM HD. What are you buying this for? LMM,LBZ. As far as the PPE I don't know. The Edge J/A is still in testing and has not been released to the public yet (LMM). I have had a banks set up on my 05 and always felt it was lacking.Went with the Edge on my new FATTY and I am Not Disappionted And it is not even their finished product.
bluebeast 08-02-2007, 11:06 PM Do not go with banks!!
And you have to change levels with these tuners or your EGT's will get too hot depending on what your doing(towing on level 3 or above with any tuner is not a good idea) sometimes with bigger tunes not towing still gets hot:eek:
AzRodd 08-02-2007, 11:08 PM :confuzeld Forgot I was in the fourth gen. Elec. So you prob have a LMM
bluebeast 08-02-2007, 11:43 PM Ya, Lmm too but all diesels with hotter tunes raise EGT's, just the facts
AzRodd 08-03-2007, 12:53 AM Yep! With the new emissions stuff on the LMM they seem to run higher egt's than the previos D-Maxes.

80% of the time I run it in level 1, commuting to and from work. On the weekends I will stick it in 3 or 4. Saturday mornings is when all the rice rockets come out and play thru town!

When/ how often do u have to update it?
LMMOWNER 08-05-2007, 04:49 AM PPE all the way, with the hot unlock level 5 260 Hp sick!, if you need a monitor that will smoke the edge, check out TS performance, its a 4 gauge lcd screen which comes with a heads up display which on top of the lcd monitor allows you to chose one parameter and it projects it onto the mid drive side corner of the windshield, its awesome and only 3 hundred bucks
Bartman432 08-07-2007, 01:31 AM I've tried Banks on my 2004.5 Duramax and had problems with the six gun unit making the truck surge when the air conditioning was turned on. On my new LMM Duramax I was a "brief" beta tester for the Edge Juice with Attitude and had to send it back due to the check engine light going on over 9 times while towing my 5th. wheel trailer. The engine would go into a limp mode with no power until I could clear the trouble code out of the system. The main trouble code was a low turbo boost code. I have had the PPE tuner for quite some time and love it. No problems at all and I drive with it all the time on level 4.

Pretty cool, but it's $455 not $300 ;)

lbbest 08-07-2007, 02:44 AM DAN,
Any plans to incorporate DPF delete programming in the future? This is a big decision maker on what type of tuning I purchase.

Yes we have been working on it for some time...
Dan
lbbest 08-07-2007, 02:47 AM Great!!
07DMAX69 08-07-2007, 02:40 PM Just got my PPE and it has the level 5 but it may take sometime getting up that high!!!

tbyrne 08-07-2007, 10:56 PM Hope you guys aren't running the BIG HP levels through the stock transmission :)
07DMAX69 08-07-2007, 11:18 PM I will not till I order a tranny from you!!!!;)
Hope you guys aren't running the BIG HP levels through the stock transmission :)
LMMOWNER 08-11-2007, 02:52 AM hey tige man got it for 351 dollars shipped to my door from modsfortrucks.com im not a random blurt something out of my ass without knowing kinda guy check it out.
edlegionst 08-11-2007, 03:21 AM dan when is the projected date of release for the tunner with regen delete? this is what i am waiting on i want to turn my truck into an LBZ so to speak. i dont really care about crazy power just want a little more get up and go with a regen delete option so i can do a full system and throw no codes.
LMMOWNER 08-14-2007, 01:12 AM throw codes who cares, it wont do anything, and guys aleady have figured out the code problems using efi live do a turbo back set up you wont be dissapointed
sondy 08-19-2007, 05:23 PM What upgrades are needed for the tranny for safe running with a tunner at a high level?
LMMOWNER 08-24-2007, 10:24 PM what kinda high level, thats an important detail... we talking like a PPE Level 3. or 4 or 5 or what? i think if you run level 3 you are pushing that gearbox to its limit level 4 and so on and your running a ticking timebomb depending on how you drive it, if you want the tranny to be safe, I would put a transgo kit in it than run it till she goes if at all, with the trans go you should be fine on level 4 not abusing it, if you put in a set of clutches and a tq converter you wont have an issue at all, problem is do you want to spend 250 or 2500? thats the question, if it were me transgo it than run it, the new tq converters in the 07.5 -08's seem to be holding up fine, just a matter of when??? I guess
sondy 08-25-2007, 04:59 AM Thanks LMM...I am just trying to decide Whether or not to put a tuner in. I love power but do not to risk Longevity if you know what I mean. Its not like i will be racing this truck.
Dan@PPE 08-25-2007, 01:13 PM Just use a lower tune (160hp or lower) and you will be fine....
LMMOWNER 08-25-2007, 08:19 PM I would put a tuner and I would get the hot unlock to... PPE is awesome I have had great luck with mine so far, do a transgo kit and run it untill there is problem which there might not ever be, I shoe the shit out of mine, but I am relying on that good ole chevy warranty if the tranny hits the wind, thats what is nice about PPE you can go back to stock and they wont know you were ever there, every talks about the boost recordings and this and that, ask Dan he knows, the truck really doesent run all that much more boost from what I have seen in level 4 I believe its mostly fuel Inj pulsing change and timing my boost seems to be steady at around 32 or so pounds whether I am at stock or level 4 so, if that is any help
snowho 08-26-2007, 12:59 AM I shoe the shit out of mine, but I am relying on that good ole chevy warranty if the tranny hits the wind, thats what is nice about PPE you can go back to stock and they wont know you were ever there
And you think this is OK?? I'm all for mods but when you break things directly related to the mods you have done, it is not a GMC problem it is your problem. If you want to play you better be ready to pay, at least do the correct mods to your tranny.
LMMOWNER 08-26-2007, 03:03 AM if your asking me if that is ok no, if your asking do I care ummm NOPE. did they care when they made a ton of money off me when I bought there over priced product,,,,, they can afford to replace my gearbox once
LMMOWNER 08-26-2007, 03:03 AM and yes i said overpriced, lets see what they make these pickups for.
snowho 08-26-2007, 11:41 AM if your asking me if that is ok no, if your asking do I care ummm NOPE. did they care when they made a ton of money off me when I bought there over priced product,,,,, they can afford to replace my gearbox once
So you don't think it is OK but your going to do it anyways because you believe GM overcharged you for your truck? Well have fun with your truck and good for you, you give it to the man.
DmaxHawk 08-26-2007, 12:38 PM Pretty cool, but it's $455 not $300 ;)
http://www.tsperformance.com/heads-up.html
This one is better i think, it plugs straight into the OBD II port.
http://www.dashhawk.com/
snowho 08-26-2007, 12:45 PM that thing looks like a Edge Attitude monitor.
DmaxHawk 08-26-2007, 01:08 PM I think that edge and dashhawk have a joint thing goin on or one owns the other, something like that. It basically is just the attitude monitor under a different name.
LMMOWNER 08-26-2007, 09:18 PM its 350.18 shipped on modsfortrucks.com thats where I got mine, check out my pics in my garage
LMMOWNER 08-26-2007, 09:19 PM and no they are not joint at all with edge, talked to the owners for about an hour or so before I purchased it
DmaxHawk 08-26-2007, 09:49 PM It doesnt look like a DashHawk...is it?
snowho 08-26-2007, 09:55 PM I think he is talking about the Dashhawk which is built by MSD which now owns Edge Products. LMMOWNER has the MPD monitor from TS Performance.

DmaxHawk 08-26-2007, 10:45 PM Exactly, thanks for clearing that up Snowho!
LMMOWNER 08-27-2007, 01:47 AM exactly but damn I would have bought the dashhawk, looks like a better product on top of a lot less hassle
TDP121 08-27-2007, 05:19 PM Does the Dashhawk monitor EGT? and if it does will it do it through the OBDII plug?
Thanks
Schweinmesser 08-27-2007, 05:40 PM Does the Dashhawk monitor EGT? and if it does will it do it through the OBDII plug?
Thanks
