: 6 Disc OEM - Non Bose Sound Quality

I just purchased a new 07 Classic that had the 6 Disc non-Bose changer. It appears to have seperate tweeters and drivers in the front door and something in the back doors.

The sound quality leave allot to be desired. The bass from the front is very boomy and unbalanced. I would like to improve on this, but need to know the best way to go about it.

I have read the FAQ and it mentions the Bose head unit is a clean unit and works well with aftermarket speakers, etc. I assume this means the non-Bose is not clean and should be replaced?

Basically, if I replace the speakers, am I likely to solve my problem, or should I plan on replacing the whole unit and speakers? I might add a sub later, but for now I would just be happy with better sound.

Thanks,
JS

I am in the same boat as you, anyone have any suggestions?

The bose and non bose head units are identical, just programmed differently. (bose doesn't use the internal amp in the headunit) You could get aftermarket speakers and install those. You could always buy the speaker level to RCA adaptor and run aftermarket amps and that would make it sound better. Personally, my factory system with the 6 disc changer sounds good enough for me, but I have a 2004 also.

I think I'll probably put some better speakers in and try to dampen the door. Depending on the outcome, I may replace the headunit, but we'll see.

I was mainly wondering if the bose and non-bose head-units were the same or not. I have been told the bose head-unit (with all the bose stuff removed) has a pretty clean output. With that said, I'll start w/ the speakers.

Thanks,

Howdy-
Speaking from past Bose experiences, you are best off getting the PAC adaptor that gives you RCAs out, running to a quality amplifier and replacing the stock speakers. The speakers are generally 2 Ohms and dont work well with the after market stuff. Lots of room in the front doors for a nice set of separates! Oh and yes, damping the door will help a lot, even quiet the cabin! A single 10 under the back seat will tighten up the bass without getting crazy.
Cheers!
