: Tinting of the windows.....
caviglia 08-01-2007, 02:17 PM Alright so I tinted my GMC 1500 some years back and I noticed they seemed to drag when rolling up or down. Now there was no scratching or scruffing of the tint, but the windows were noticeably slower.....
Now that I got my 2500 I'm wondering if I should tint them. Has anyone tinted a newer 2500? Does it affect the speed of the windows?
Thanks,
AndrewFessler 08-01-2007, 02:30 PM Mine have been tinted for sometime now and the windows work fine.
Sometimes the motors start to wear and drag and just need to be replaced, other times the tracks need to be greased. Perhaps that is what was happening to your 1500? I really dont see how tinting them can make it harder on the window opener.
GMC2500HD 08-01-2007, 02:48 PM Most likely that was not the tint causing issues but the motor itself or the assembly holding the window. They can get in a bind and slow it down.
You will have no issues with tinting your windows..
caviglia 08-01-2007, 03:04 PM Thats kinda funny because I remember complaining to the dealer about it and they straight told me it was because of the tint.
It was a noticeable difference in speed once the tint went on. Perhaps things just needed to be aligned again or greased......

They tried to tell me the same thing. I basically told him he was an idiot for thinking something as thin as tint film could do that. I was so pissed that I stripped the tint on the one window right there and guess what.... window still did it. He was like.... well ummmm.... it was damaged from the tint, so still not under warranty. At that point I looked at him and said get me the service manager NOW. That guy wasn't there when I came back later that afternoon, and the manager even had my window retinted when I came back.
nekkidhillbilly 08-02-2007, 01:12 AM ive had every car ive owned tinted dont hurt shit
only way i could see if your tint didnt bond good and got into the area of the mechanics but you would notice it
Unit453 08-02-2007, 01:22 AM I find it hard to believe that a paper thin layer of tint could effect how fast power windows go up and down...
I've never had a problem with any of my vehicles and all of them have been tinted.
DieselDoug 08-02-2007, 03:35 AM I have had all my trucks tinted and never had a problem with the windows. My 07 classic has been tinted for 3 months and no problems with the windows
Mr BaadBoy 08-02-2007, 05:56 AM I have a 03 with the factory tinting and would like to do the fronts to match the baack any one with the proper tint number?
Any tips or tricks I did my travel trailer with a limo black to help with the southern sun and they were just rectangular and flat. Unlike the arched and tipped truck windows Thanks
JPW77 08-02-2007, 08:24 AM Tips or tricks......they sell pre-cut tint on eBay that would be pretty easy to install. It's not hard to install at all and the hardest part would already be done for you. Since you've done it before you already know the process so having it pre-cut to the correct size already should make it a breeze.
By the way, I tinted my front side windows with 20%. It's not quite as dark as the factory but it looks good IMO. Plus now I think that anything darker than 30% is technically illegal. You can check out my garage if you want to see what it looks like.
fajitatone 08-02-2007, 12:18 PM Perhaps the soapy water that they use to clean the glass, before the tinting goes on, somehow washed away the lubricant from the window tracks, causing the window to stick.
That's my guess.
Oregonfireman 08-02-2007, 02:06 PM all my trucks have been tinted with no problems, never slowed the window. I don't think that the tint even goes where it would get in the way of the rail or motor. Chevy trucks are known for having trouble with the window motors. I work with a bunch of guys that also have chevs and have seen them have to fix about 4 doors in the last couple years.
Jeremy James Andres 08-10-2007, 01:49 AM I've had every vehicle i've ever owned tinted, including a 03 and 07 duramax and never had a problem with rolling the windows up or down? The only problem i've had is trying to get the tint shade colour to match properly! I had my 07 done the first time and it was way to blue, and made the factory tint look brown! So I took it back and he removed it for me and refunded my money. (He said it would match perfectly) I went some where else and found a bronze film that looked identical before I had it installed. Now my factory windows look blue? I just settled for this shade and left it on, it makes the interior look nice when the sun is shining through it!
