: Just ordered a new front winch bumper
problemchild 11-02-2004, 08:42 PM Its probably not the strongest but its the nicest looking I think.
Lead time is low at 3 weeks (compared to 8 by others). Price is right
at 1300 includes light holes, powder coat, pre-runner guard.
The others were at 2k+ dollars.

SteveNorCal 11-02-2004, 09:41 PM Nice lookin' PC & not bad on the price. Which winch did you decide to with?
partsguy662 11-02-2004, 09:45 PM Okay pc, with your luck it will fall off and punture all four of your tires http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
Seriously, it looks like a nice piece of hardware....hope it serves you well
problemchild 11-02-2004, 10:01 PM Im getting the warn 16.5ti. The bumper is the slow part. I can buy the winch anywhere anytime.
Any of you guys know a place to get one on sale?
I saw 1249.00 + 100 aprox shipping.
GMC2500HD 11-02-2004, 10:11 PM Well make sure you take some pics so we can see what it looks like on your truck, before you start having problems with it....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

SuperTuscan 11-02-2004, 10:44 PM What else did you look at?
I'm looking for something for my 99 Sub.
mannytranny 11-02-2004, 11:27 PM I personally like the ranch hand front end replacements.
Road armor looks yuppy. Like something youd see on a H2.
Also, no protection for the hood. What if you had to hit a
person/animal? I was in Colorado with a buddy of mine in a PSD,
and we nearly hit a deer. A taller setup would help keep a large
animal from entering the cabin, not to mention no damage to the
radiator/etc.
Do you off road, PC?
problemchild 11-03-2004, 10:54 AM I gave that lots of thought. There arent too many moose, elk, deer on california freeways.
I rammed into a toyota a month or so back and it didnt do anything to my truck (with stock bumper) so this should do just fine.
Im buying the biggest winch because I like big and bad. I can move it
from truck to truck over the years. Its the best they make.
I just need to get some of the artificial rope now. I saw one 3/8ths that tested at 26.5k LBS.
You can put more on a spool too I think.
If I lived in moose country this would not have been my 1st choice.
I looked at ranchhand, road armor, runell, buckstop, arb and a few others I cant remember.

steiner43511 11-03-2004, 10:58 AM there is a guy here at school that has one of those road armor bumpers on his dmax. looks pretty good, but he needs some bigger tires. he has the stock wheels and the bumper looks like it could drag on the ground. his is a little bigger and it wraps around the lights a little more.
ryeguy 11-03-2004, 12:09 PM Okay pc, with your luck it will fall off and punture all four of your tires http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley18.gif
Heh! I was thinking more along the lines of no airflow openings like the stock bumper, so something will happen during or right after install to guarantee a total lack of airflow to the engine, and he'll blow something or....

mannytranny 11-03-2004, 05:14 PM Pc, do you off road?
I wonder how/if a winch would pull out a truck that was really
stuck. Im sure it would have the power, but Ide bet you would
have a problem finding a good anchor.
Gradyghost 11-03-2004, 08:28 PM Trees make good anchors....just use a tree saver.
www.winchdepot.com (http://www.winchdepot.com) as good prices on warn products and shipping is fast imho.
Turbine Doc 11-03-2004, 08:45 PM Danforth boat anchor with flukes dug into the ground with 15-20' of heavy chain also works as a good anghor when no trees to be found, also a tire/rim burried underground also works, if stuck hard anchors buddies vehicle then latch onto his.
may need to put out 2 "anchors" Also when you are stuck don't overdo the power and dig yourself in you can go from a nuisance to a PITA stuck hard situation in a short time, requiring a tow or tractor to get you out.
mannytranny 11-03-2004, 10:16 PM It would suck to have to get one of these trucks out.
Kartattack 11-04-2004, 12:00 AM "

Yes. yes, it did.
Kartattack 11-04-2004, 12:02 AM I would get one of these for where I live/drive off road.
Pull Pal (http://www.pullpal.com/quotes.html)
problemchild 11-04-2004, 12:57 AM Bunch of ways to anchor when no trees or rocks are around. You could
lay down 20 feet of chain and pound a stake into every third link at an
angle. Do it lengh wise and it would give you a strong anchor point.
Both time I was stuck it was deep snow with no nearby trees. There were
rocks the 2nd time. The 1st time there was nothing and I was in a 4
foot hole on one side.

mannytranny 11-04-2004, 03:03 PM Crap. That would suck.
Where was that?
Ive been winching up fallen overavocado trees that take 750 lb of force
to right them. Sure wouldnt be fun to have to pound in a load of
stakes in a chain in order to get unstuck. Especially in the
cold.
WYO_DMAX 11-04-2004, 03:57 PM That's a good looking bumper. Can't wait to see some pics after you get it on!
Kartattack 11-04-2004, 11:34 PM If you were refering to me, <span style="font-weight: normal;" ="bold">mannytranny, it was in SW Texas near Sanderson after a 2 hour rain storm.</span>
SpoolinTurbo 11-09-2004, 01:03 AM "
It would suck to have to get one of these trucks out."
Yes.* yes, it did.
I second that! I was wheeling with a buddy of mine and got the truck buried up to the framerails.. was straddling the ruts in one part of the trail and ended up slipping in... if I had 38's I would have been fine, but stock tire size didn't help me any. 2 hours with 2 shovels and an E tool, some chain and 2 fords pulling on me, and whala I was out.
Can't wait to get the lift and tires.
