: Stacking With a 6-Gun

Hey Guys,

I went to a local event here in the DFW area hosted by the Outlaw Diesel Racing Assoc. (several members are part of this forum). It included a Dyno event (first one for me) on Saturday and 1/8 mile racing at the Denton Raceway on Sunday (again first time for me). It was a blast. I didn't buy my 6-Gun with the intention of racing or anything but I had so much fun that I am wondering what I could safely stack with doing a lot of transmission modification.

One of the guys let me borrow a Bullydog tuner and play with it. Without the tuner (just 6-Gun) on level six my fastest time (1/8 mile) was a 10.24. With the Bullydog 95hp setting and my 6-Gun on 5 I got a 9.38 at 77mph.

Anyway, I am thinking about buying a Bullydog but I am not exactly sure how stacking works. At the Dyno my truck did about 348hp (about 90hp increase over stock) if I put a bullydog with the 95hp tune on my truck would that bump the hp to 443hp or would it be some increment of that? And how much hp is too much for the stock Allison? I would get the Bullydog Shift Enhancer too that is supposed to let the trans. handle an added 50 hp for about $90.

Well since nobody is answering I will even though I have 0 experience with stacking a 6 gun.

bully dog shift widget is viewed as complete crap by most on this forum.

Stacking is a hit and miss deal as to what it adds, sometimes it runs like crap sometimes it does better. But it never adds the full amount. You cant just add the 2 numbers together, dont work like that unfortunatly otherwise i would have my edge on top of my extream with a VA in the mix too.

You wont be able to saftly run much above what you have on a stock ally IMO.

If you want to go higher powerwise IMO ditch the 6 gun and forget about stacking. Buy 1 program and stick with it. Buy a comp juice for a more mild tune or a TTS or something nutty like that.

My 90hp juice layed down mid low 340's BTW.

Thanks Rat, that was what I was looking for. Like I said, I didn't buy my 6-Gun to be able to run 12 or 13 second 1/4's. If I am at or close to the edge of tranny limit I am good with where I am. My Dyno numbers were 348 hp and 647 tq at about 2800 rpm. Right about what the Banks charts show for that RPM. It was an acceleration type Dyno so I don't know if would match their claims for the hp and tq at 2000 rpms under load.

Braz,

Since you already have it, send in your 6-Gun for the re-flash. Sounds like you have the 1st version. You don't really want to go with anything more than the 6-Gun version 2 with a stock tranny.

Hey Scotty, I was thinking I may have the first version because I don't think I am getting the same power you and Terrain Twister get. I don't get the tire spin like you guys say you get. I pulled it out and looked at the other night because the box it came in had part no. 62956 on it. I got mine in July and the actual 6-Gun box has part no. 62967 (v.2 right?) but I am still wondering.

I have a 6-Gun (w/speedloader) stacked with a Predator programer. I still have to update the 6-Gun to version 2.0. I am still testing different Predator programs with the 6-Gun, but truck runs good with 40, 65 and 85 hp programs stacked with 6-Gun settings of 1 to 3.

I have slipped the 5th gear using 40hp program and 6-Gun set at 5 when I did not have Co-Pilot on. However, 85hp program with 6-Gun set at 3, and Co-Pilot on low settings I do not slip the trans.

Still trying different combinations of programs and 6-Gun with Co-Pilot settings to come up with best combination.

Still learning.

sdaver if i remember you posted a 9.03 1/8 with 90hp and only a 8.8 145 edge/attitude not much of a improvement now were these times before or after the tranny was done, just want to make sure were comparing the same thing here, for the record my six-gun version2 ran a 9.135 1/8 with stock tranny in upper 80 degree weather. so it does not jive with brazs times

Braz,

Do a search on Peter T and the 6-Gun. I believe in one of his posts he listed the different part numbers for the different versions. I can't help because mine was one of the early re-flashes and I went directly to Banks myself to have it done. I don't believe they changed the sticker on the side of mine because my son and I where to busy looking at all the toys in the race shop!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif My son fell in love with the twin turbo Chevy truck that was the same model as his! If that fails, PM Peter! I've had excellent service from him and the Banks team and I'm sure he could tell you which version you have.

How much smoke do you get in level 6 after driving it a few minutes and then stomping it? I can just about make the car behind me disappear.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

9.03 were stock tranny good air(winter) the 8.8 were in warmer weather and suncoast...........forty horse and a few tenths.......not bad ..I could have been retaining water that day or needed a new jersey style pit stop...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/hihi.gif.............best of 8.31 7000lbs plus stack w/ some propane........Ive said all along that banks numbers compare with the 90 hp juice..........much less than their advertised hype but still respectable

Version 1 is #62956 and version 2 is #62967. Peter first announced the 2nd version available on June 28th, but I know that several people who ordered the 6-Gun still got version 1 a few months after. I believe mine had a sticker on it proclaiming that it had been updated. Even though you say that your module has #62967, something may have got screwed up. Your dyno numbers are spot on for version 1. Contact Peter and get to the bottom of it. With the added performance, you'll be saving money by not having to buy a programmer to stack with it.

Just for the record, the second version of the 6-Gun runs with the 90hp Juice on level 4. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Terrain Twister and Scotty, I did call Banks the other day and talked to one of their techs. He said to look for a sticker on the 6-Gun unit with the part no 62967-05 and check for fault codes. I couldn't find that but the part no. printed on the 6-Gun unit was 62967 so that made me think it was the version 2. I am going to PM Peter to see if they would reflash it anyway just to make sure. I don't have any fault codes flashing and I know when I got the speed loader installed that did make a big difference in the power. However, at the track the 6-Gun on lvl 6 was significanly slower than the Bullydog 95hp tune. The Bullydog with 6-Gun on level 1 ran a 9.67 while the 6-Gun on lvl 6 before the Bullydog was installed was a 10.24.

FASTOYS,

The 6-Gun with speedloader on level 4 is rated at 93hp. You've got two more levels to go yet, one at 124hp and the other at 155hp.

Braz,

Now I know you've got the first version. Level 4 runs equal with the Bullydog Powerpup level 3 (95hp). Level 6 shouldn't even be a contest. What times did you get with the Powerpup set at 95hp and the 6-Gun set at level 6 in the 1/4 mile? For comparison's sake, I ran a 15.10 with the Bullydog 95hp and a 15.25 with the OLD version of the 6-Gun set on level 6. I believe this is what you're experiencing.

Scotty, I have not ever run a 1/4 time. I have only been to the track once and it was a 1/8th mile.

Terrain, my truck almost does not smoke at all. When I am in level 6 if I jump on it it will puff just a little bit. Here is a picture. I never get more than this. My truck is on the right. By the way, I did beat the Ford by several truck lengths.

Braz, almost sounds like what you have is in between 1&2. I'll try to post a picture of mine this evening to make sure I'm not just imagining more smoke than yours!

Scott, What do you think? Looks like 1 to me.

From what I remember, I believe my first version didn't really smoke at all. The picture is a little dark, but it looks like more smoke than what I got before the re-flash. A gain of 90hp on the dyno and not being able to beat the Bullydog 95hp on level 6 points to version 1. Strange.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley13.gif

I just got off the phone with Banks and they said no problem, send it back and they would reflash to make sure it has the most current calibration. I am going camping next week so I will send it after we get back. Thanks for all the input guys.
