Does the trailer brake wiring harness come with the truck. I remember reading that they do not come with the new trucks. Can anyone confirm that a '01 trailer brake harness will plug into the 2005 trucks?

My 03 didn't come with and my 04 did. Apparantly they started putting them back in for 04.

For your 01 plug it will plug in but you will have to switch 2 wires around. The brown and the green if I recall correctly.

If the truck was ordered with the extendable camper mirrors, it will come with a harness for wiring a camper. Don't know about the trailer, but the truck should have a standard connector already installed in the rear bumper. It would be the same as the '01.

I just picked up my 05 2 weeks ago, the dealer included the trailer brake wiring harness, said something about GM not wanting customers to cut into the wiring harness. I'll see if I still have the bag the harness came in, if I did keep it I'll post the part number listed.

Just to clarify, the 7 wire plug at the back of the truck will be the same on your 01 and 05. The plug that connects the brake controller to the truck inside the cab will not be the same on the 01 and the 05.

My harness came standard with my '05 D/A. I was told that they only
include them now when you order the towing package group (which is a
D/A standard IIRC).

Just remember when using your plug harness, match the functions of the
harness wires with the functions of the wires on your controller. If
using an older plug harness on a newer truck, make sure you change the
wires around in the plug so you are using the proper gauge wire for the
job.

Thanks guyshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif, the in cab wiring is what I was wondering about. I ordered the 5th wheel wiring provisions, towing package. I will make sure the dealer gives me the in cab wiring harness.

Thanks

I just picked up my '05. It was ordered with the "Trailering Equipment" package (Z82 option). This included the hitch, 7 wire harness, 7 to 4 pin adapter, and fuse. The harness, adapter and fuse were found in the glove box when I picked up the truck. I also ordered the "Trailering Wiring Provisions, For Camper, 5th Wheel and Gooseneck Trailer" package (UY2 option). This is the 8 way wiring harness that is routed to the front of the pickup box and required the Z82 option. MSRP for the UY2 was $35, the Z82 was $210. Hope this helps...

<DIV>i wouldnt worry about the harness, buy a prodigy brake controller and get their harness that plugs into the truck and the controller, so you dont have to worry about what wire goes where.</DIV>

If you got the trailer option it's in the glove box, if it's not there the dealer took it out.

It should have been in the glove box, mione was. But like Donnie 1 said, buy the harness from the controller manufacturer, that way you don't have to mess with the wiring. That's what I did. I bought the Prodify controller and also bought the harness from them. The harness was only $15 so it doesn't even pay to mess with the wiring.

The wiring is easy. I bought the Tekonsha Voyager (cheaper than the Prodigy) and wired it (5 wires goes to the GM harness). Simple splices and then it just plugs into the proper port inside the fuse panel on the driver's side above your left knee. I wouldn't buy anything extra. It took me no more than 15 minutes to do the splices. Piece of cake.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
